As many of you guessed over the last couple weeks, changes are afoot for Sky Island Brand / 47 Ranch and Weidenthal Family Farm. The Weidenthal family is excited to announce that they will be taking on the task of providing Southern Arizona with 47 Ranch beef and lamb to take some responsibilities off of the Moroney family’s plate.

For years, the Moroney family has been one of the familiar and beloved faces of the Bisbee Community Market, building a loyal following through their dedication to sustainably raised meats, community relationships, and the kind of personal connection that makes the market feel like home. Their work with Sky Island Brand Meats helped shape the character of the market itself — rooted in Southern Arizona, committed to their craft, and centered around people who truly care about where their food comes from. The Moroneys created more than a business; they built trust within the community, and that legacy has become an important part of the market’s identity.

Now, the Weidenthal family is honored to carry Sky Island Brand Meats into its next chapter. With a shared commitment to regenerative agriculture, high standards, and strengthening local food systems, the transition feels less like a handoff and more like a continuation of the values that customers have supported for years. The Weidenthals hope to preserve the spirit that people already love about the brand while continuing to grow it with their own passion for sustainably raised meats, transparency, and community connection. At the heart of it all is a deep respect for the foundation the Moroneys have built and excitement for what the future can become together.

This absolutely is still a collaboration at heart: 47 Ranch will continue raising their renowned Criollo cattle and Navajo Churro sheep, which will continue to be featured through Sky Island Brand Meats under the Weidenthals’ stewardship. Together, the families share a commitment to preserving the unique agricultural heritage of the Sky Islands while continuing to provide thoughtfully raised meats to the community. It’s a partnership built on mutual respect, shared values, and a belief that local food should reflect the people and landscape behind it.

We are now working through a transition phase where the familiar crew with Dennis and Flavie (and Deb when we’re lucky!) will still be around until they’re comfortable that everything is operating as smoothly as it should.

We hate to post anything negative, but after some recent incidents we need to remind everyone that live animal sales on public property in Bisbee are illegal. We do not allow sales or giveaways at our market. Even if we wanted to, it is against the law. If you see someone trying to give away or sell animals, please let us know so we can ask them to leave the premises or notify the police if necessary.

We’ve got a few first time vendors setting up tomorrow and our “food court” area out in the grass has really grown with quite the selection of food trucks and coffee. Reminder that the market information booth is moving down to the corner with Sky Island Meats we look forward to seeing you there!

As we reorganized parts of the market this year, the market information booth has moved locations a couple times. Sorry for the confusion but we’re moving one more time starting this week and we expect it to be the last move! Beginning this weekend you will find Weedy and Kae for market information alongside the Sky Island Brand Meats booth in the corner entrance to the market closest to the baseball field. Drop by and say hi on Saturday!

There has been a huge surge in interest in signing up as a vendor in the last few months! We’ve made the application public for viewing at the following link. It is not editable as it is so please copy and paste it into a new document to email it or print it out and bring it to the market to introduce yourself in person. Please note that at this time we are not accepting more baked good vendors or egg vendors unless you have home grown produce to bring or other items that fill a void in our current selection.

Tomorrow at the market we will be playing host to reps from the city_of_bisbee_az as we celebrate Arbor Day! The city will have a canopy by the rose gardens along with Project Wildlife, Firewise, and AZ Water where they’ll be making seedballs with a native plant mix and they’ll be finishing the day with a tree planting at City Hall! We’ve got MahaVia for our musical entertainment and it’s expected to be a beautiful day (with a bit of wind towards the end of the market)! Join us from 9:00-1:00 in the Vista Park!
