This is our "retired" LGD. I guess she thought the other dogs outside barking needed some back up & she decided to clock in! I am glad that all of my dogs don't know how to open the doors. Great Pyrenees are something else! 🤣

Update: butternut squash sold out

I just put a couple each of spaghetti squash, small butternut squash, and a few bell peppers in the stand. As always no pesticides or herbicides used. Only geese! I uploaded a video of them hard at work while I was picking the squash. You can't really get more natural than that!😁

We are down to our last THREE whole, natural, uncured, forest raised hams! Truth be known, I didn't anticipate our whole hams being quite so popular this season, and I did not realize I was down to only 3 left. I have been so busy that it had not even registered that we are about a month from Thanksgiving & 2.5 away from Christmas and New Years!

Here is what we have:

- 10.44 lbs: Sold
- 12.26 lbs
- 14.64 lbs Sold

Our hams are USDA-inspected and contain no injected enhancement solutions, no added saline, no nitrates, or nitrites. They are fresh, uncured hams that you will need to cook or smoke. $8/lb.

If you've never prepared a fresh ham, you're in for a treat and they are delicious!

A little note about holiday pickups:

Whole hams take up quite a bit of freezer space, and we realize not everyone has a large freezer sitting around with room to spare! We will be happy to hold them until you are ready to pick them up. (You will need to allow enough time to thaw them slowly, similar to how you do a turkey in the fridge.)

Since these are the last three available, please message us or call the farm if you would like to reserve one.

It's feed delivery day at the farm!

It may not be the most exciting thing happening on the farm today, but it's certainly one of the most important!

One of the biggest expenses in raising livestock and poultry is the feed. In some cases, feed costs are close to 70% of the cost of production. With the cost of just about everything continuing to rise, we're always looking for ways to operate more efficiently without sacrificing the quality of care and nutrition our animals receive.

Farms come in all shapes and sizes, from large industrial agricultural operations to backyard flocks of just a few chickens. And then there are farms like ours that fall somewhere in the middle, in what I like to call the gray area of agriculture.

We're growing, but we're not quite large enough to justify purchasing multiple tons of bulk feed at a time for different species of animals on the farm. At the same time, we've grown beyond the point where buying a couple of pallets each week is the most economical option, especially when it means driving an hour each way, multiple times a month.

Larger agricultural operations often benefit from bulk purchasing discounts and economies of scale that aren't always available to smaller producers. Add to that the fact that we don't have any feed mills conveniently located near our farm, and sourcing feed becomes an even bigger logistical and financial challenge.

But just because we aren't large doesn't mean we can't find ways to make our own operation more efficient.

And that's exactly what we're working toward with today's feed delivery!

By purchasing our feed in larger quantities and having it delivered directly to the farm, we're able to reduce some of our expenses. That means fewer trips to pick up feed & less time spent hauling it.

Every dollar we can save on production costs helps us avoid having to raise the prices of the food we produce.

Our goal isn't just to raise quality food. It's to keep our product prices as steady as we reasonably can for the families who support our farm.

We know that rising food prices affect everyone, and we don't want to contribute to that any more than necessary.

So while a feed delivery might not seem like a big deal, for us it's another step toward keeping locally raised food affordable without compromising how we raise our animals.

And that's something worth getting excited about on feed delivery day!
