We first opened in 1977 as a small neighborhood market. In 1999 we moved into a 40,000 sq. foot renovated former Safeway site at 2020 Oregon St. between Shattuck and Adeline Streets. In June of 2009, our second store, Berkeley Bowl West, opened in a new modern building at 9th & Heinz Ave. (920 Heinz Ave., Berkeley, CA 94710) one block north of Ashby. Berkeley Bowl West has ample free above ground parking and an underground parking garage.

We tested the high protein and gluten free lines from in the ‘Berkeley Bowl Rest Kitchen - high protein got the fancy Mac and cheese approach with two kinds of cheddar and a fontina from the cheese department. The gluten free pasta? Loaded with a pork ragu - so delicious!!

It’s that time of year!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Berkeley Bowl is jumping in with this years special edition “Together We Fight” t-shirt!

This years shirt is sporty style - a baseball style shirt with our cancer awareness logo emblazoned on the front!

As always proceeds from the sale of this shirt will be donated - Cancer Support Community SF will be our recipient as a thank you for the support they provide for those fighting and those survivors among us!

Return from Japan and missing the egg sandos from the local combini? Just us?

Get in on the deliciousness either way! Tom Cat Bakery has a new artisan Japanese Shokupan (milk bread) that will take you right back to the Family Mart down the way. Make your own egg salad filling with hard boiled eggs, copious amounts of Japanese mayo, add your favorite secret ingredients (ours is a bit of mustard and a dollop of sweet pickle relish - trust the process) and tuck in while thinking of the 20k steps a day you managed to walk before dinner!!
