SO excited to announce this new product, with the help of Stephanie Agnew who bought the first bag. It's kernza flour! A perennial grain crop being grown in East Troy, Wisconsin at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute (which I have been to when I was interning at the organic farm I met Raul at!)

Kernza was developed by the Land Institute as a part of the answer to the problem of industrial annual monoculture farming. It DOES contain gluten, fyi, and can be used in place of wheat flour in cakes, cookies, quick breads etc.

Stephanie is a professional baker and she had been to the Land Institute when they were developing Kernza, so it has a special place in her heart and she was SO excited to get to buy the first bag. It has a high protein content, it's better for conserving water, wildlife, and soil. And it's hyper local so it has a tiny carbon footprint, if at all. THIS is the food of the future. I'm looking forward to experimenting with this in my kitchen, as I hope are you!

I'm excited about every good thing in the store this weekend! Come get local apples, native perennial shade plants, freshly delivered local ice cream and eggs, some handbuilt pottery made by myself! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Come get what you need to live simply and well before tomorrow's rain storms! The egg farmer said we're supposed to get four inches!!

Yeah, the world is imploding, whatever. Let's do something HOPEFUL and FUN! Come get some native shade perennials to plant in the rain. 50% of every sale goes to support the which provides free vegetables and a natural refuge for folks in the neighborhood.

These plants were grown in the neighborhood and donated for sale by my friends Chris and Fred. Talk about building a circular economy and providing mutual aid? WE'RE DOING IT!! And this is your chance to be a part of that.

Plants on hand:

Zigzag Goldenrod
Blue-stemmed goldenrod
Big Leaf Aster
Short's Aster
1 culvers root plant
A few redbud trees
A few sweet Joe pye w**d
2 alternate leaf dogwood

Small 3" pots = $4 ea.
Medium 4" pots = $5 ea.
Large Dogwood plants in pots = $10 ea.

They're all happy in partial shade to shade in normal Beloit yard conditions and it's the PERFECT weekend to plant them!
