Good Monday morning!
As I sit here and drink my morning cup of coffee, I am recapping this last weekend in my mind. What a whirlwind! We didn’t anticipate the traffic that we had on Saturday. We really thought we would be dead in the water, literally! It poured all morning yet our parking lot was full all day. You have no idea how much we appreciate your visits. It really warms our hearts. And you all have been so understanding with our Apple situation. I sure wish I could change it, but there isn’t anything I can do about it. The trees are already loaded with next year’s buds, which grow all summer long for next year’s crop. So provided we can get through the spring without a frost, we should have a really, really nice crop. We are already looking forward to that.
The apple update for this week is as follows: please read carefully. Honeycrisp are disappearing fast. We are down to a few peck bags of good ones, but we still have quite a few bags of seconds…the flawed ones. They lasted a whomping 3 days in house. They did not do well at all this year. Not only was the yield WAY down, so many of them were damaged by the yellow jackets, which means they either went for c***r (if the wound was small enough) or they we’re literally throw aways ( the wound rotted half the apple). The yellow jackets have been really bad this year. We hope to pick Snow Sweet, Empire, Jonathan and MAYBE Macouns to have ready for the weekend. If they get them picked here in the next couple days, I will post, as I check those little buggers everyday for ripeness. Can’t pick them if they aren’t ready, and they are soooo close. The weather looks good for the rest of the week and these cool nights really move them along. The late apples are looking real good. So far the yellow jackets have stayed away from them. Late varieties (which Normally don’t get picked until mid October, will be early as well) are Ida Red, Jonagold, Haralson, Pink Lady’s and Yellow Delicious. Yellow apples get a bad rap. They are so good! Crunchy and sweet, not like the grocery store. If you’ve never had a fresh Yellow Delicious, you’re missing out!
Well, I think that’s all I have for this morning. As I said, I will post as we pick. Please share this, as I know Facebook picks and chooses who sees posts.
Again, you all have no idea how much we appreciate you! Your kind words of encouragement keep us going! THANK YOU!!
