ARE YOU WATERING YOUR BEAUTIFUL HANGING BASKETS CORRECTLY?

1. Check for Moisture
The Weight Test: Instead of watering on a rigid schedule, lift the basket. A heavy basket is well-watered; a light basket means it is dry and needs a drink.
The Finger Test: Stick your finger into the soil up to the second knuckle. If the soil is dry, it’s time to water.

2. How to Water Properly
Direct at the Soil: Avoid spraying the foliage from above, as dense leaves can act like an umbrella and shed water. Use a watering wand or funnel water directly beneath the foliage into the soil.
Water Slowly: Give the soil time to absorb the moisture. If you pour too fast, water runs straight down the sides and out the drainage holes.
Avoid the "Pour Through" Trap: Water enough to provide the soil with needed moisture for the day, but avoid overwatering. Drenching the basket every day until water pours out of the bottom encourages root rot.
3. Troubleshooting Bone-Dry Baskets
If your soil becomes entirely dry, it will shrink and pull away from the edges of the pot, causing water to immediately spill out the bottom.

The Soak Method: Submerge the entire hanging basket in a bucket or tub of water for 10–15 minutes. Let it drain completely before hanging it back up.
Double Watering: Water the basket slightly, wait 5 minutes for the peat or coir fibers to moisten, and then water thoroughly again.
4.. General Care Tips

Morning Watering: Water in the morning so excess moisture evaporates during the day, preventing fungal diseases and root rot.
Check After Rain: Even if it rains, dense foliage often stops water from reaching the soil. Always check your baskets manually.

Drainage is Key: Ensure your container has functioning drainage holes and never leave it sitting in standing water.
