Melissa's Seeds

Melissa's Seeds Working for food diversity and security. Rare, heirloom, and non-GMO seeds, lovingly grown and packag My Dad fostered a love for gardening in me at a young age.

Welcome to Melissa's Seeds, a fun project to create, grow, and distribute unique Organic Seeds to small farmers and gardeners
Join us in the preservation and sharing of heirloom gmo-free vegetable and flower plants, and in the creation of new varieties! When You and I buy vegetables from the local farmer , we are helping to promote food security. But did you know that most farmers and growers bu

y their seeds every year from a mega seed producer? Wonderful varieties are lost each year as these giant companies tend to accommodate the large grower who values tough produce that can be handled and stored and shipped, but are not always that great to eat. We are encouraging food and seed security and diversity, and the availability of delicious food by propagating heirloom traditional varieties that are delicious and beautiful. Non of our varieties are patented and we use only natural plant breeding methods to create new varieties of veggies adapted to local climates. This seed saving venture is part of a small 5 acre Organic farm. We have fun producing beautiful delicious vegetables and flowers, Our favorites being Sweet and spicy peppers, rainbows of colorful and delicious tomatoes and many different kinds of lettuces and cucumbers, squash, melons, kale and beans and old fashioned fragrant flowers. I remember our tilled back yard as early as age 4. Over the years the passion for growing beautiful things has pretty much consumed my life. Having been given a patch in the backyard for my touch only, it only grew in size every year. After becoming involved in local seed exchanges and organizations, at14 I began distributing seeds I had saved and new varieties I had created through a printed catalog. Then began taking all kinds of gorgeous heirloom tomatoes to the local farmers market where these lovely delicious tomatoes created a fan following. That was awhile ago and although my life has went through some changes since then, the passion has remained. My name is Melissa and now along with my partner and kids we are creating 5 acres into a sustainable Eco-farm and Organic Gardens, remodeling the traditional farmhouse into an Eco-home with a low carbon footprint, and developing the land into a sustainable ecosystem. This is our first year here and you are invited to be a part of this wonderful, creative and educational project!
