Rotational grazing is considered a key element into regnerative agriculture.

Allowing our sheep to quickly graze a section over a few days, then giving the land rest for a couple of months allows for better soil health as well as better livestock health. Studies have shown that rotational grazing proves a higher % spring time grass production and also a higher carbon production in topsoil. In return, those offer a higher biodiversity in the soil improving the ecosystem without having to sacrifice other parts of the environment as a “trade off.”

Because we have been strict with our rotational grazing year-round, we can see the physical change on our land year after year. When we first purchased our property in 2022, our pasture had been over grazed quite a bit. There were almost mono-crop sections of johnson grass and sections of ragweed. Each year our pasture has less and less of each of those and more variety of native grasses and flowers such as little bluestem and black eyed susans.

This year we are blessed by MANY flowers in the field, as well as healthy bugs and animals. We’ve been grateful to see indian paintbrush flowers popping up (which are a personal favorite of mine) as well as seeing 2 (rarely seen) western slender glass lizards (oklahomas only lizards without limbs.)
Below are pictures of just a few of the beautiful flowers seen in our pasture.
We are forever grateful for this chance to connect with the land. 🌎❤️

Even though we got rained out at our local farmers market, we still had sheep to move! Rotational grazing never stops. The cloud cover and cooler temperatures actually make for an easier move. Hot, humid, and sunny are the harder days so we are very grateful for the rain and clouds today. ❤️
