What a story: 100 years of art, community and connection that started with one woman's vision and donating her home.

This weekend the city is invited to a free block party to celebrate the centennial.

I had the chance to welcome Erin Dougherty, the High Museum of Art’s Director of Public Engagement, into our 11Alive streaming studio to talk about an extraordinary milestone.

The story behind those 100 years may be my favorite part.

In 1926, Atlanta resident Hattie High donated her Peachtree Street home to the Atlanta Art Association, helping create a permanent place for art programs and exhibitions.

A century later, that gift has grown into the Southeast’s leading art museum and a treasure for Atlanta. It has expansive education programs for local schools. The High Museum welcomes more than 30,000 students each year.

The High is marking its 100th birthday with a free Centennial Block Party, bringing art outside the museum walls with live music, food, and hands-on experiences.

Congratulations on a century of impact. Looking forward to what comes next.
