On behalf of Ali Washington, Founder of Fickett Farmers Market & Westside Farmers Markets:
For our final market of the season—and in the spirit of Thanksgiving—we partnered with Nate Jester, Corey Jackson, and Wholesome Wave Georgia to continue our Help a Neighbor In Need initiative by providing free produce and protein to our community. Together, we served 150 families, and thanks to our incredible volunteers, we were even able to deliver to those facing circumstances that prevented them from attending in person.
We did experience a few hiccups—this was our first large-scale giveaway organized in under 48 hours—but your patience, understanding, and continued support meant everything.
To every volunteer, sponsor, customer, service provider, and vendor who has stood with us and believed in our mission to bring affordable, nutritious food to the Ben Hill community: thank you. Our neighborhood sits in a food desert, and it has always been my dream to create a place where we can gather, fellowship, break bread, and show what community truly looks like.
To our elders—your consistency, your advocacy, your wisdom, and your weekly “checks and balances” have kept this market going on the days I felt like giving up. I am deeply grateful for each of you.
