What does ā€œPasture-Raisedā€ look like on our farm?
🌱🌾
I’ve noticed a little bit of confusion lately regarding labels like pasture-raised and grass-fed, grass-finished beef. It’s easy to see why—there are a lot of terms out there!

Im not going to try and convince you that one type of beef is better than the other. I’m a firm believer that every family ahould choose what’s right for their table, and there’s a place for all types of beef. I just wanted to share a little ā€œbehind the scenesā€ look at how we do things here at Midwest Prime Farms.

For us, it starts from day one. Our calves are born right here on our soil. They spend their first year staying close to their mamas in one of our grazing pastures, doing exactly what cows were meant to do: soaking up the sunshine, breathing fresh air, and grazing on natural grass and the hay we harvest ourselves.

After about a year, we move our steers to what we call a finishing pasture. This is where our process looks a little different than a 100% grass-finished farm:
• Freedom to Choose: Our steers stay out on the open grass, but we also give them ā€œfree-choiceā€ access to a supplement of non-GMO corn, vitamins, and minerals.
• The Best of Both Worlds: They can graze when they want, nap when they want, and choose when—or if—they’d like a little grain.
• The Result: We’ve found over the last 30 years that this balance keeps our cattle incredibly healthy and produces the kind of flavor and marbling in our beef that our customers love.

To us, ā€œPasture-Raisedā€ isn’t just a label on a package; it’s a lifestyle for our animals. It means they have the space to move, the fresh air to stay healthy, and a stress-free environment from start to finish.
We’re so proud to be your local source for beef that’s raised with care, right here in the Midwest.

As always, any questions- feel free to message me.

Sunday afternoon on the farm.
It’s muddy, but the cows don’t mind one bit.

Sunshine, almost 60°, and the mamas are out with their babies soaking it up.
The grass is starting to green up and it finally feels like spring might be on its way.

Looks like someone’s been rolling in the hay. 🌾

Late winter on the farm means hay bales, muddy boots, and cows that think the feeder is also a great place for a spa day.

Spring grass will be here soon… but for now, they’re pretty happy with hay.

I’ve been quiet over here.
Not because anything changed on the farm — but because we were building something in Oxford that took almost all of my time and energy.

Opening The Market, growing it, figuring it out… it was a season. And I poured myself into it.

But while I stopped documenting life here, the farm never stopped.

The cattle are still on pasture.
Calves are still being born.
Hay still has to be put out.
Work still gets done.

Midwest Prime didn’t go anywhere. I just stepped back from the camera for a bit.

And now — with the very best help in place at The Market — I’m excited to show more of the farm again.

Because this is where it all began.

I love being out with the cows. Taking pictures. Watching them. It’s peaceful to me. If you’ve ever been into The Market, you’ve probably noticed the wall of farm animal pictures — that’s not decor. That’s just what I love.

More to come soon. šŸ¤

Why choose local, pasture-raised meat over grocery store meat? Let’s break it down. ā¬‡ļø

Higher Quality 🄩
Not all meat is created equal. Our pasture-raised beef and pork are naturally rich in flavor, with better marbling, tenderness, and nutrients—because animals raised the right way simply produce better meat.

No Unnecessary Additives 🧪
Ever read the fine print on grocery store meat? 🧐 Many commercial meats are pumped with saline, fillers, and preservatives to enhance shelf life. Our meat is just that—meat. No extras, no nonsense.

Supports Local Farmers šŸ‘Øā€šŸŒ¾
When you buy from Midwest Prime, you’re not supporting a faceless corporation—you’re helping a small, family-run farm keep food local, sustainable, and transparent. Every purchase makes a real difference!

Tastes Amazing 🤤
Once you taste pasture-raised meat, there’s no going back. Rich, juicy, and full of natural flavor—it’s the kind of meal your family will actually look forward to.

Make the switch to farm-raised quality today! Shop online at midwestprimefarms.com or in person .prime.market.

Meet one of our pasture-raised Berkshire pigs, living its best life—even in the snow. ā„ļøšŸ·

Berkshire pork is known for its rich flavor and incredible marbling, but what really sets it apart is how it’s raised. Our pigs have plenty of space to roam, root, and just be pigs. No shortcuts—just fresh air, quality feed, and care from our family to yours.

Good food starts with good farming. And when you choose local, you’re not just getting better meat—you’re supporting a way of life that values transparency, sustainability, and real food. šŸ’›
