So while last year's canes were pretty much a bust, this years weather has been almost perfect raspberry growing weather. The canes that have popped up this year are strong and look to be productive, at least the ones we have gotten the w**d away from. Huge job . . . First year canes get a big clump of berries on each cane in the fall. Usually getting ripe around the first of October. Fall berries ripen slower, last longer. and bear until there is a hard freeze . . . frost doesn't stop them. Only draw back is there is just one clump per cane. Still, many less folks have the time to get out and pick, so typically there are more berries than pickers.

So if you are one of the many of our followers that didn't get what you wanted in the summer, here's your second chance! We will keep you posted.

AND, we had a good amount of maple syrup from this spring season. We have lots left since berry season was so lean. $8.50 a pint. Stock up or go in with friends & family, and get 12 for $81.

Please indulge me on my cat-rescue mission. If you are a berry lover but a cat hater, you can stop reading here . . . I have three fur babies that are looking for loving homes, two kittens and one adult that is a great cat for the right situation.

Nix (white female) and Taz (tabby male) are siblings from the same litter. They have been completely "humanized". The love people, come when called (most of the time), and purrrrrrrr when picked up and held. Taz only stops playing to sleep and eat. Nix is calmer except when she's tangled in a wrestling ball with Taz on the floor. They would be great for a home who was able to take both. I have had sibling cats several times and it's the best, IMHO. They have both had their first vet visit, shots and checkups. About $130 each worth.

Theo is about 10 years old, good health, and a huge, gentle, white with some patches here and there. His previous owner passed and he was put up for adoption. I have been fostering him for a few months. He likes being petted, sleeps a lot, and occasionally pops up beside his owner on a chair or in bed. He's not a pest, just occasionally wants to connect with his peeps. :-) His only behaviour issue is he doesn't like other male cats. He seems OK with females. Just Top Cat issues I guess. He would make a great companion cat for someone(s) who just want a cat hanging around. I seriously considered keeping him, but my other male cat and he don't occupy the same spaces very well. ;-)

Message me with any questions about the cats or the berries. Hope to see you soon on the farm.

So do you want the good news or the bad news first??? (Don't you hate that!)

Good news first. We DO have raspberries and the early ones are ready to start picking. So put us on your schedule if you want to get some. And the second piece of good news is we are lowering the price. We are going to pricing only by weight this year. A pint is 12 ounces. We charged $3.00 for you pick last year. This year, by weight, we are charging $3.20 per pound. In all likelihood we will go back to last year's pricing NEXT year, but this year, BONUS as we switch over. Last thing on the good side, maple syrup season was short but intense. We are lowering our maple syrup just a tad to $8 a pint. If you want a better deal, buy with your friends/family and get a dozen pints for $80.

Now, for that other info. Raspberry canes do not like too wet, or too dry. The occasional shower suits them fine. Last spring was SOO wet that this year's canes which produce this years crop didn't grow much in the spring. Then it went from flood to drought, so they didn't grow much afterwords. The canes this year are smaller and not a strong as in years past. They still have lots of berries on most of them, but they are smaller than usual. We always have lots of berries that don't get picked and turn into chipmunk food, so we still expect to have plenty of berries. They will just be smaller and take a little more diligence to pick. Another sad tidbit is covid went through the house this spring and, while we were all recovering, we didn't;t get much w**d abatement done. The patch is pretty dense with w**ds at the moment. If you hate 'wading in' might want to come a bit later after we get those stomped down.

Final info on the sad side, the frost that took so many other fruits and berries took about half of our blueberry blossoms. We have some, but since the birds have none of the wild stuff they normally eat, they are eating them as soon as they have any color. We have several mulberry trees that usually keep the birds filled up. Not a mulberry this year. If we can get some netting on the blueberries we may be able to save some for you, but things don't look good here locally.

Picts to follow shortly. And updates as we have them.
