A heartfelt and important note to our faithful customers and community:
A. Gemmen & Sons’ wholesale meat business began in the early 1940s. In the 1980s, our family made plans to open a retail store—and The Meat Market was born.
Over the past several decades, our business has flourished, grown, and changed in so many wonderful ways. We’ve had the privilege of serving customers from many different cultures and backgrounds, and we’ve always done our best to serve you well.
Many of our customers remember coming to The Meat Market with their parents. Others have only recently discovered the value of a small, family-run business committed to quality meat and personal service. We value each and every one of you.
Thank you—not only for your business, but for your patience, your understanding, your encouragement, and most of all, your friendship. You have been such an important part of our family’s story.
And now, we have some news to share—and it’s good news: Beginning Wednesday, September 9, The Meat Market will be managed by our long-time wholesale customers and friends at Bob’s Butcher Block.
Well-established and known throughout West Michigan, Bob’s Butcher Block currently has two stores, in Jenison and Holland, and they are excited to add The Meat Market to their family of businesses. (This refers to the retail part of business; the wholesale part will continue under the ownership and management of the Gemmen family.)
Some faces will be new, while others will be familiar. The name and faces may change in some ways, but our hope is that the things you’ve always valued about The Meat Market—quality, service, and community—will continue.
We are incredibly grateful to Bob’s Butcher Block for stepping into this next chapter, to you, our faithful customers, for walking alongside us through the years, and to God for providing everything we have needed—and so much more—along the way.
