Five awards.

Honestly, that’s still hard for me to wrap my head around.

But if I’m being truthful, this picture is what those awards actually look like.

This place would not exist in its current form without Shanna and April.

Not “it would be harder.”

Not “we’d have to figure it out.”

It flat out would not happen.

These two have given decades of their lives to this little sandwich shop. They’ve weathered ownership changes, good years, hard years, and everything in between. When I walked in the door, I inherited a business that needed help, but I also inherited two women who cared deeply about this place and the people who walk through the doors every day.

They’ve taught me things no business book ever could. They’ve challenged me when I needed it. They’ve supported crazy ideas that probably sounded insane at first. They’ve carried more responsibility than most people will ever realize. And they’ve helped build something that I’m incredibly proud to be a part of.

There aren’t enough words to properly thank them for what they’ve meant to this business, to me personally, and to this community.

And then there’s you.

The community.

The customers who have been coming here for 40 years.

The customers who discovered us 40 days ago.

The families who trust us with birthday parties, team meals, fundraisers, office lunches, and everyday lunches.

The people who share our posts, tell their friends about us, show up to our events, support our causes, and choose to spend their hard-earned money with us.

You have allowed a little sandwich shop in Alcoa to do some pretty incredible things.

We’ve worked hard to bring back the things people loved about Subs & Such while also finding ways to move it forward. Every decision we’ve made has been rooted in one simple belief: take care of people.

The support you’ve shown us over the last year has been overwhelming at times. It doesn’t go unnoticed. It doesn’t go unfelt. And it will never be taken for granted.

People tell me all the time that I’ve brought life back into this place.

Maybe.

But the truth is, all I’ve really tried to do is the right thing.

The real credit belongs to an incredible team and an incredible community that continue to show up for us every single day.

These five awards belong to all of us.

Thank you for believing in us.

We’re just getting started. ❤️

Gears & Beers is rolling into Subs & Such next Friday!

I’ll be honest… I’m probably the least qualified person in Blount County to host a Jeep event.

I don’t own a Jeep. I’ve never owned a Jeep. I know just enough about Jeeps to know that Jeep people wave at each other.

I’ve tried waving a few times myself, but since I don’t actually own a Jeep, they mostly just stare awkwardly at me.

But here’s what I do understand…

I love people who are passionate about something.

Whether it’s Jeeps, sports, fishing, cooking, small businesses, or whatever else gets people excited enough to spend their free time and money on it.

And from everything I’ve seen, Jeep people are passionate people.

So this Friday we’re staying open late and teaming up with Outlaw Offroad for Gears & Beers.

If you’ve got a Jeep, bring it.

If you don’t have a Jeep but want to come check out some cool builds, meet some good people, and hang out for a while, come on out anyway.

Food will be available until 8:00pm.
Beer will be flowing until 9:00pm.

At the end of the day, this is what we love doing. Finding reasons to bring people together.

Sometimes that’s a comedy show.

Sometimes it’s a fundraiser.

And sometimes it’s a parking lot full of Jeeps.

Hope to see y’all there. 🤘🏼

I never thought I’d be making this post, but here we are.

Apparently banks don’t just hand out penny rolls like they used to.

So now we’re turning to the real Federal Reserve…

Meemaw’s cookie tin.

Papaw’s coffee can.

That random jar on top of the refrigerator that’s been collecting change since the Clinton administration.

If you’ve got pennies sitting around collecting dust, we’ll buy them.

We’re not looking for rare coins.
We’re not starting a collection.
We’re just trying to keep enough pennies in the register so nobody gets shorted a cent.

Watch the video and tell me what’s hiding in YOUR cookie tin.

Because let’s be honest…

There was never a single cookie in these things.

Well that escalated quickly.

We posted The Wise Guy a couple hours ago and somehow Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro were already standing in our dining room.

Now, we can’t officially confirm it was actually them.

What we can confirm is that three very Italian gentlemen showed up, pointed at the sandwich, and said, “We’ll take one.”

Technically we’re not launching until tomorrow, but we went ahead and made one for them anyway.

Not because we were scared.

Not because we felt pressured.

Not because one of them looked at us and said, “It’d be a real shame if nobody got to try that sandwich.”

Just because we’re committed to great customer service.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it.

After a few bites, there was some nodding, some pointing, and what sounded like discussions about putting The Wise Guy in the trunk and taking it back to New York.

So we’ll take that as a positive review.

The Wise Guy officially drops tomorrow.

Mortadella. Hot Sopressata. Hot Capicollo. Provolone/Mozzarella blend. Lettuce. Tomato. Onion. Oil & vinegar. French bread.

Come grab one before these guys come back and put the whole inventory into witness protection.

🔥 THE WISE GUY HAS ARRIVED 🔥

You ever eat a sandwich and immediately start talking with your hands? 🤌🏼🤌🏼

Yeah.

This is that sandwich.

Mortadella.
Hot Sopressata.
Hot Capicollo.
Provolone & Mozzarella.

Built on French bread and finished the way the sandwich gods intended:

Lettuce.
Tomatoes.
Onions.
Oil & vinegar.

(If you’re asking me personally… add banana peppers and don’t ask questions.)

I’ve eaten an embarrassing number of these over the last couple days “for research purposes.”

The verdict?

This thing takes me back to a NY deli.

We’re dropping it tomorrow and putting the decision in your hands 🤷🏼‍♂️

If enough people order it, it stays.

If not, we’ll quietly place it into the Federal Sandwich Protection Program and pretend it never existed.

The Wise Guy.

Available tomorrow 6/12

🚨 SUSAN… WE NEED TO TALK. 🚨

UPDATE: Susan has been located. The paperwork will be reunited with her today. The community once again did what the community does. 🤘🏼

You left what appears to be your entire identity at Subs & Such.

Driver’s license paperwork.
Important documents.
The whole nine yards.

At this point we’re only missing your birth certificate, elementary school report cards, and a lock of hair.

Also… where are you fleeing to? Because based on the amount of paperwork you left behind, it feels like you’re either:

1. Buying a house
2. Joining witness protection
3. Starting a new life in the Caribbean

We’re honestly not sure.

If anybody knows Susan Renee Conner, tag her.

Susan, your paperwork is safe and waiting for you at Subs & Such.

But girl… you’ve got me stressed out over here. 😂

🔥 Field Trips & Such 🔥

Friends… let’s go on another field trip.

Today’s stop was The Slice & Tap.

They just opened this week, and let me tell you, they came out swinging 💪🏼💪🏼

We grabbed the Smoky Caprese, the Pimento Pepperoni, and the Appalachian Hawaiian. Then we added the Hot Honey Pepperoni Chips(ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!) and The Holler Cheesy Bread because apparently moderation isn’t something we practice around here lol

Every bit of it was fantastic!

While I was there, I got to meet the owner, Colin. The dude was absolutely getting after it. Answering phones, taking orders, running the register, talking to customers, and doing about 47 other things at the same time. You know, just casual new owner stuff… doing it all

I always respect seeing that 👌🏼

A lot of people see a new restaurant and think, “Oh cool, a new pizza place.”

What they don’t see is the owner working his tail off trying to make sure every customer leaves happy.

The place was busy when I stopped in, which was awesome to see. I hauled the food back to the shop and our team absolutely demolished it. That’s usually a pretty good sign.

This is exactly the kind of business I love supporting. Good people. Good food. Fair prices. Taking a chance and building something in our community.

Go see Colin and his team.

And if you order the Appalachian Hawaiian, don’t be one of those people that argues about pineapple on pizza. Just eat it. 😂

If you rock with us, go rock with them 🤘🏼

National Donut Day is one of my favorite holidays because unlike most holidays… there’s literally no downside. 🍩😂

Swung by Richy Kreme Donuts this morning to grab a dozen donuts for the team and the place was absolutely getting HAMMERED.

Line out the door. People stacked up everywhere. That kind of slammed.

And because it’s National Donut Day, they were handing out free donuts too 🤘🏼

The coolest part wasn’t the donuts though.

Dustin wasn’t there this morning, probably at the other location, but his team was absolutely rolling. Just smiling, hustling, keeping the line moving, and taking care of people while the place was packed.

That’s always what I notice as a business owner. Anybody can run a smooth shift when it’s slow. It’s when the wheels should be falling off that you find out what kind of team you’ve got.

His team was awesome. Literal perfection 👌🏼

We’ve said it a thousand times and we’ll say it a thousand more. If you love local businesses, support them when they’re busy too. Not just when they’re struggling.

Today was a good reminder that this community shows up for the businesses it loves.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a box of donuts and absolutely zero self-control.

And after you indulge in a breakfast donut, swing through for a Reuben!!!
