We are incredibly honored and excited to share something pretty special for Wilson Farm Produce, LLC! β€οΈπŸŒ½πŸ…πŸ₯’

Almost every week, Christine Vilsack stops by our stand at the Waukee Farmers Market to pick up fresh produce. Over time, we’ve had the opportunity to visit with her and share a little bit about our farm and what we do.

A couple of weeks ago, Christine asked if she could spend some more time talking with us and learning about our operationβ€”how we grow our produce, the work that goes into each season, and the story behind Wilson Farm Produce.

We were truly honored when she told us she wanted to write an article about us!

Farming is so much more than planting seeds and picking vegetables. It’s early mornings, long days, unpredictable Iowa weather, broken equipment, muddy boots, and plenty of blood, sweat, and tears. But it’s also something we absolutely love. There is nothing better than watching something grow from a tiny seed and eventually being able to put fresh, locally grown food into the hands of our customers.

Having someone take an interest in our story and recognize the work that goes on behind the scenes means more to us than we can put into words.

We are so thankful to Christine for taking the time to learn more about Wilson Farm Produce, LLC and for choosing to share our story. We’re also incredibly grateful for every customer who stops at our market stand, visits the farm, places an order, shares our posts, or simply tells someone about us.

We wouldn’t be able to keep doing what we love without all of you. ❀️

Thank you, Christine, for this wonderful opportunity and for supporting local Iowa agriculture and small family farms!

πŸ… CANNING TOMATOES AVAILABLE!!! πŸ…

We unexpectedly have a large amount of canning tomatoes available, and I want to explain why.

A little farm-life rant...

A gentleman contacted us through our business page a couple of weeks ago wanting 150 lbs. of canning tomatoes. We had been communicating back and forth and arranged for him to pick them up today. I explained that afternoon pickup would be best so Dad and I would have time to pick his order fresh this morning. He said that worked perfectly because he got off work at 1:00.

Well, as everyone around here knows, Mother Nature was not very kind this morning. Between the downpours and lightning, Dad and I still went out and picked close to 200 lbs. of tomatoes, making sure we had plenty to fill his 150-lb. order.

Around noon, I messaged him to let him know his tomatoes were picked and ready.

That’s when he responded that he hadn't realized how far away we were because his eyes aren't the best.

I explained that we had specifically picked 150 lbs. for his order and had even turned away other customers because those tomatoes were spoken for. I even offered to meet him to make it easier.

And then... no response. Nothing.

Dad and I work extremely hard to provide our customers with the freshest produce possible. We pick orders specifically for people, often early in the morning and sometimes in less-than-ideal weather. When someone places a large order and doesn't follow through, it doesn't just mean we have extra tomatoesβ€”it means time, work, and produce that could have gone to other customers who wanted them.

We completely understand that things come up and plans change. All we ask is that you please communicate with us. A simple message goes a long way, especially when we've picked and held produce specifically for you.

So, with all of that being said...

πŸ…πŸ… WE HAVE CANNING TOMATOES AVAILABLE!!! πŸ…πŸ…

If you've been wanting to make salsa, tomato juice, sauce, or get some canning done, now is the time!

Please message Wilson Farm Produce, LLC if you're interested.

And as always, THANK YOU to all of our wonderful customers who support our farm, show up for their orders, and appreciate the work that goes into growing and picking fresh produce. ❀️🌱

07/16/2026

We operate our farm on the honor system, and we truly appreciate the honesty and support of our customers. We work hard every day to bring fresh, high-quality vegetables to your table. Our tomatoes are picked daily as they ripen and carefully placed in crates to protect them from deer, raccoons, and other wildlife.

Unfortunately, last night someone stopped for tomatoes and took significantly more than they paid for. We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to estimate the total, but we kindly ask that you please be mindful of what you are taking and leave payment that reflects your purchase. The honor system only works when everyone does their part.

A price sign and a scale are available at the farm to help you determine the total for your purchase. Payments can be made by placing cash in the black lockbox attached to the metal cabinet or by using the Venmo information listed on the pricing sign.

Below are the current prices for the items we have available. If you ever have questions or are unsure of the total, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 515-979-4052. Thank you for your continued support, honesty, and for helping us keep our farm open for everyone.
