Jill and I are taking the boat out this afternoon for a little R & R . We're packing just a few things , fresh bread from Clear Flour Bakery in Allston , several cheeses from the Concord Cheese Shop and an adult slushie . It is after all Rose season .
This is how you make it . Very easy >
1 Bottle of a good Rose such as Pannonica , dark in color ( for a rose ) 100% Pinot Noir .
1/3 cup of simple syrup
1oz Aperol
1 oz fresh lemon juice .
pour the rose into a 13x9 baking sheet and place in freezer for about 6 hours .
When it is almost solid scrape into a blender and add all remaining ingredients with about 3/4 cup of ice . Puree until thickened . That's it .

Okay , have you noticed that bartenders are getting wired ? Well they are , and I like it . I recently had what I thought was just a standard garden- variety summer drink . It consisted of vodka , honey syrup and fresh lemon juice , it's dumped into a rocks glass and topped with yellow flower bud . And that's when things got weird . That flower is known as" the electric daisy" or "buzz button " Jim ( my bartender ) says that the buzz button releases an alkaloid which gives you a numbing or tingling sensation in your mouth followed by excessive salivation and then cooling feeling in your throat , talk about mouthfeel ! When the feeling wears off the drink seems to change flavors with every sip . It was great .
Were not at the Old Worthen ( circa 1974 ) anymore .

Boston had it's first offical heat wave . This is the time I usually turn to vodka & tonic , it's a nice refreshing back deck drink , but I'm not ready to give up bourbon yet . What to do ? Then the light dawns on Marblehead , WHISKEY SMASH ! This is from legendary bartender Dale DeGroff . You will need the following :
1/2 lemon cut into wedges
2 mint leaves
3/4 oz simple syrup
2 1/2 oz of good Bourbon

Muddle the lemon in a shaker
add all the remaining ingredients and fill with ice
Shake and double strain into a rocks glass
Flii glass with ice
Slap a mint spiig between your hands and use as garnish
Serve with a straw

Now that's a back deck drink

IT'S SPRING !! Time for a champagne cocktail . I have this bottle of champagne that I wanted to do something with , so I went on Charles De Fere website ( really nice French champange ) for some ideas and I found that those crazy Frenchmen put gin in there champange , yet another reason to love the French .
It's called French 75
You will need :
ice
2 oz gin
1 teaspoon simple syrup
1/2 oz lemon juice
5 oz brut Champagne ( chilled )
1 lemon slice

Chill cocktail shaker and collins glass in freezer
add ice , gin , simple syrup , and lemon juice to shaker , shaker well
Fill collins glass half way with ice , strain cocktail into glass
add champagne , garnish with lemon slice . Enjoy !
As always repeat

So I hear it's going to snow . Well I say damn the snow ! I'm going to make frozen drinks , turn up the heat and sit in my livingroom in a Tommy Bahama shirt and pretend .
So here goes . Let's make "Boozy Frozen Lemonade "
You will need :
4 cups of lemonade chilled
1 lemon , sliced
2 tablespoons suger ( optional )
1/2 cup limoncello or lemon vodka ( I use 1/4 cup of each )
Directions:
Pour lemonade into ice cube trays - freeze
rim 2 wide mouthed pint sized mason jars with lemon and suger
Blend frozen lemonade cubes in a blender with the lemoncello and vodka . If the mixture needs to be thined out add a small amount of lemonade or vodka .
Garnish with a lemon slice ; Enjoy immediately and repeat

Thank you all for comming out last Friday to the wine tasting . It was great being able to see you all again . I will be doing 1 last tasting for the boys at Red White & Brew this Friday from 6 to 8 .
We have slected 3 whites and 2 reds that I think will be great on your Thanksgiving table . As always there will be wine , food , music and tons of fun !

We are planning a special good by party this Friday from 5:30 to whenever ! The state has finally approved the transfer of the liquor license , so this will be our last weekend together. As Always there will be food , wine tasting , and fun, but this time there will be a little something extra . So stop by if you can , I would love a chance to say good by to you all .

September is Bourbon Heritage Month ! I started the celebration on Sunday by trying several different brands side by side and, after exhaustive research I found that I really like bourbon . So lets keep the celebration going , on Friday from 6 to 8 we will be sampling Bulleit Bourbon , it's a 90 proof Kentucky Bourbon that made me smile .

Now that Jill and I have sold Red White & Brew ( New owner taking over end of Sept. ) I started thinking about all the things that I've missed , like
Best Pizza ever / Coopa in Boston . Bone Marrow pizza !
Best Donuts ever / Anna's hand cut in West Roxbury Black Raspberry Twists !
Best Italian market ever / Tony's market in Roslindale
Best Martini ever / The Last Harrah @ the Parker House , Boston.
Before Jill and I take off to parts unknown I will have to do at least one more BEST TOUR . If any of you find yourself at any of these places let me know , I'll meet you there . We'll eat , we'll drink , we'll laugh , we'll cry . It will be beautiful .

Another Friday night is approaching , it's time to plan Red White & Brew's Friday night party night . I'm thinking Pimm's cocktail . Don't know what Pimm's is ? Don't feel bad I didn't nether . It comes to us from across the pond and it is delicious . It mixes well with so many things . You can find several recipes on there web site but we are going to keep it simple . Pimm's over ice with ginger ale and a slice of lemon . Good stuff . Hope to see you tomorrow night from 5 to 7 .

OMG Phil has been drinking again .
1.5 oz K**b Creek ( From Red White & Brew )
2 oz lemonade ( From Trader Joe's )
1 oz pomegranate juice ( From Trader Joe's )
Garnish with lemon twist
Shake all ingredients with ice and pour into glass
