Pakistan Gains Access to Russian and Eurasian Seafood Markets in a Historic Move on 10th April, 2026. The Marine Fisheries Department an attached Department of Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Government of Pakistan has achieved a landmark success by securing market access for export of fish and seafood from Pakistan to the Russian Federation, through dedicated efforts made by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
After rigorous diplomatic and technical efforts on behalf of Pakistan, the authorities in Russia have given approval for export of Pakistani seafood to their country through registration of 16 seafood processing plants in Pakistan.
In an effort to diversify its markets and explore new regions for exporting its fish and seafood products, Pakistan has secured entry into the Russian market for fish and seafood, which will enable it to export fish and seafood not only to the Russian Federation but also to other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The total value of seafood exports by Pakistan stands at about USD 500 million annually and the main buyers include China, Gulf countries, Southeast Asian countries, Europe, and the US. Traditionally, Pakistan does not export seafood to any of the Central Asian countries.
The opening of Russian market will now enable Pakistan to boost its seafood exports up to USD 800 million. (Text source:MFD)
