Our Market Ortigas Market — Satisfying Community Hunger!
(2)

"The Ortigas Market was born out of the desire to empower our local community and help entrepreneurs to recover and rebuild after more than two years of the pandemic," shares Ed Dames (Chairman & CEO of DTC Promos, Inc.). Hence why we initiated this community-building project with Pasig City, Barangay San Antonio, and Ortigas Center Association Inc. (OCAI) to create an open market area where peopl

e can support all things local and where businesses can connect with even more customers in this new normal. Our vendors range from start-up Micro to Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as well as veteran entrepreneurs of farmer markets. "This alliance between the private sector and the local government has allowed us to provide a venue for our local producers to sell their projects to residents in the Ortigas Center and surrounding areas," adds Marissa Dames (President & COO of DTC Promos, Inc.). Being located at a CBD, our market promises its vendors an accessible place where customers can easily pour in to shop for the freshest of produce, meat selections and great value artisanal treasures plus fill up on international/Pinoy cuisine, learn something new, and have fun with live entertainment! Additionally, vendor partners can relax knowing they're in good hands with us when it comes to ensuring safety, proper promotion, and the lowest rental rates. Simply put, taking the traditional flea market concept — we opted to give the Ortigas Market a more contemporary makeover so that it suits the general needs of many in today’s time and become a go-to Saturday hangout where lasting memories can be created.

“Shrimp posture” is a common way people sit when they are using their phone, laptop, or studying for long hours. It usually means the shoulders are rounded forward, the head is tilted down, and the upper back is slightly curved.

This posture often develops from daily habits like prolonged screen time, improper desk setup, and sitting for long periods without breaks. Over time, the body adapts to these positions, making slouching feel more natural even when it is not ideal for health.

While it may feel comfortable, research in ergonomics and spine health shows that long-term poor posture can contribute to neck and shoulder strain, back pain, and muscle imbalance. The forward head position also increases pressure on the neck muscles, which may lead to stiffness or tension headaches.

It can even affect breathing efficiency since a slouched position slightly limits full chest expansion.

The main concern is not occasional slouching, but repeated and prolonged poor posture. When the body stays in this position too often, muscles begin to adjust and reinforce the habit, making it harder to correct over time.

Improving posture can start with small habits such as keeping screens at eye level, taking regular breaks from sitting, and stretching the neck and shoulders throughout the day.

In short, sitting like a shrimp may seem harmless, but over time it can quietly affect comfort, movement, and overall physical well-being.

Reading for long periods requires focus and mental energy. While no single food magically improves reading ability, nutritious snacks can help provide steady energy and prevent hunger from becoming a distraction.

A good snack should ideally contain:
- Fiber for longer-lasting fullness
- Protein for sustained energy
- Minimal added sugar
- Nutrient-dense ingredients

Health organizations consistently recommend fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes as part of a healthy diet.

Sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger. Staying hydrated supports overall health and may help reduce unnecessary snacking. Keep a bottle of water nearby during reading sessions.

While occasional treats are fine, try not to rely on:
- Sugary biscuit
- Candy
- Sweetened beverages
- Highly processed chips

Healthy snacking is not about avoiding snacks altogether. It is about choosing foods that help you stay energized, focused, and satisfied while reading.

Every June 12, Filipinos celebrate Independence Day to commemorate the country's declaration of independence from Spanish rule in 1898.

After more than 300 years of Spanish colonization, Filipino revolutionaries fought for freedom during the Philippine Revolution, which began in 1896. One of the key leaders of the movement was Emilio Aguinaldo.

On June 12, 1898, Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine independence at his ancestral home in Kawit, Cavite. During the ceremony, the Philippine flag was officially unfurled, the Act of the Declaration of Independence was read by Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, and the national anthem was played for the first time.

However, independence was not immediately recognized. Later that year, Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States through the Treaty of Paris, placing the country under American rule.

The Philippines eventually gained full independence from the United States on July 4, 1946. For many years, Independence Day was celebrated on that date until President Diosdado Macapagal officially moved the observance to June 12 in 1962 to honor the original declaration made by Filipinos.

Today, Independence Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes and the nation's continuing commitment to freedom, unity, and national identity.

Happy Independence Day!

Many people think money problems cause stress, but the relationship goes both ways.

Stress can also affect how we manage money, often leading to decisions we would not normally make when calm and focused.

When people are stressed, the brain tends to focus on immediate relief rather than long-term outcomes. This can make it harder to evaluate risks, compare options, or stick to financial plans.

This behavior is often called "stress spending." Shopping can provide a temporary emotional boost, but it may also lead to regret once the stress passes.

This cycle can make it difficult to improve one's financial situation.
Examples include:
- Missing bill payments
- Overspending on non-essential items
- Avoiding budgeting altogether
- Delaying important financial decisions

After a long day of dealing with work, responsibilities, or personal challenges, people oftenexperience decision fatigue. This mental exhaustion can make financial choices feel overwhelming, increasing the likelihood of quick or emotional decisions.

While stress is unavoidable, creating simple financial habits can reduce its impact:
- Tracking expenses regularly
- Setting spending limits
- Building an emergency fund
- Taking time before making large purchases

Financial decisions are not always about numbers. Emotions, stress levels, and mentalwell-being often play a bigger role than people realize. Understanding this connection can help individuals make more mindful choices and develop healthier money habits.
