There is something wonderful about the Saffron stigmas, with it's high concentration of Crocin, Safranal and Picrocrocin. This is found in the red part of the Saffron stigmas.

The "style" part of the Saffron is known as the floral waste. Generally left on to increase the weight value of the Saffron.

While this part may contain a very low amount of Crocin and Safranal it would be hard to claim any of those benefits associated with it. Be very wary of anyone trying to mislead you in this respect.

Picrocrocin is primarily localized in the red of the stigma, so cannot be claimed in the style at all.

Remember Saffron is one of the most adulterated spices in world ! Take care when purchasing πŸ’œ

Fun fact Friday! Have a fabby weekend.

I know this isn't as exciting as new puppy pictures πŸ•πŸ’œ, however great timing with some rain here for us.

Even a little bit of snow on the mount. We are heading towards the shortest day at record speed and that should start to signal the colder temps.

Like every winter, I always have my hopes up for a snow to the ground ❄️ Maybe this year 🀞

Beautiful day ahead, have a good one πŸ’œ
Happy Tuesday

Well it's been a week since I last posted!
We have been having some down time at home and on the Saffron farm which has been lovely. But the most wonderful update is this little guy Buddy, who has joined team Wynyard Estate Saffron πŸ’œπŸ€—πŸ’œ

Filling a little hole in our hearts and bringing some puppy love and joy into the home x
Miss Milo is not 100% sure about the new addition, but Buddy is a laid back little dude and is not phased at all with his big sisters attitude!

Have a great Sunday everyone x

It ended up being a lovely day yesterday and today, with the sun shining. We are only a couple of weeks away from the shortest day and a change of season.

Even though the Saffron flowers are finished, there is now some important work going on under the soil.

Our corms begin the next cycle throughout winter and start to form daughter cormlets!

On top of the soil we feed and monitor the health of our beautiful Saffron corms. Health and well being isn't just for humans πŸ’œπŸ€—πŸ’œ

Enjoy!
