Honey | Pollination | Beekeeping In 2019, Levi and I met during our studies in Auckland.

A few years down the track and a wedding in between, and we're here making our dream come true together! Levi has been beekeeping since he was 13 years old, working under his father. Beekeeping runs throughout the Whitehead Family and is now continued through us. As Christians, our faith is so important to us and isn't something we wanted to shy away from in our business endeavours. We've always m

arvelled at God and His ability to envision and create, so we're excited to be able to participate in His light through a family trade of ours. Our name is inspired by a passage in the Bible, Psalm 34:4-8, where the psalmist speaks of God's faithfulness to those who call upon Him and ultimately His goodness. Reflecting on this passage and on God's steadfastness and faithfulness came the name, Taste and See. This dream was birthed as a reflection of hope during a very heavy and arduous season for us both. We're so excited and deeply encouraged to be sharing this journey and our creations with you and your loved ones, and we hope you can walk with us through our many mountainous adventures of creating, Taste and See! Blessings,
Levi & Monica x

Happiest Birthday to my beautiful man 💛

Determined, faithful and steadfast. Joyful, loving and thoughtful. This guy is such a rock to our wee family. Couldn’t be more thankful to have my best friend, husband and work boss 😜 all wrapped in one incredible man.

Forced him to take a day off for his birthday so I better make it worth it 😂🥳

And just like that, our first FULL-TIME beekeeping season is done and dusted!!! 🌸🌾🐝🍯🛻

We’ve been working hard the past couple of weeks finding new sites, shifting all of our hives back and getting all of our autumn jobs done. And now, all of our hives are back home from their honey sites and ready to hunker down for the winter season ❄️

Such a growing year it’s been! We started with 80 hives and we’ve now scaled up to 450+ 🐝 There’s been a lot of learning and stumbling for us along the way, and A LOT more shifting nights 😂 but what a blessing it’s been to witness the Lord’s multiplying of provision right before our eyes. To look back at the season and see all God has done.

His faithfulness has never once faltered and continues to hold us steady. Whether through our finances, our health and abilities, friends being willing to help, strangers saying yes to having our bees on their land, or even simply being able to work well together as a couple, God has really pulled through for us once again.

Thank you so much for supporting and praying for us as we grow as a business and as a family. It’s definitely been another season of tasting and seeing the Lord’s goodness. May He bless us with many more 🍯

“Oh taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
- Psalm 34:8

🐝 BEESWAX BLOCKS 🐝

Here’s a glimpse at one of our 1kg beeswax blocks I just took out of the fridge, ready to go through 1 or 2 more rounds of filtering.

After collecting wax from a hive, it needs to be filtered of all the debris, dirt, dead bees, and impurities etc. before it has that clean, beautiful yellow colour 💛

First we heat the wax we’ve collected in a pot of water, let it all melt in and then let it set. We dump the water and scrape the impurities off the wax block and repeat.

After a few rounds of the water filtering, the bits are too small to scrape off so after melting, we pour the melted wax through a mesh/muslin cloth, let it harden and do that all over again until the whole block is clean (just like the top) 😮‍💨

From there, we melt those filtered beeswax blocks and pour it into our candle moulds to make beautiful NZ beeswax candles 🐝🕯️

That being said we’ve recently started selling our filtered beeswax in 1kg blocks for all our crafty friends and family so go check it out! 💛

Beekeeping work is seasonal and very weather dependent. Autumn work can get busy as we’re prepping the hives for the winter slow 🍂

Our Autumn work so far has been:

• Dropping all hives down to singles - This means the hive has only 1 box, instead of a big stack you may normally see. We do this so there’s less space that the bees have to keep warm, but some beekeepers winter as 2’s.

• AFB / Health Check - Checking the frames for disease, healthy and laying queens, honey stores for food, etc.

• Reduce the hive entrance - This year we have modified our floors so they have a permanent half entrance, with an extra reducer we add in the winter. The entrances are now a finger-width wide. This helps to keep the hive warm and also helps to keep robbers out (other bees that come steal their honey because food stores are low during the cold).

• Treatments for Varroa Mite - We treat twice a year so we’re taking out the old strips and putting in new ones. Treating the bees helps to keep them strong and keep the parasites at bay.

• Replace/Repair any broken gear - Just like our homes need some renos before the cold months come, so do the bees. We’ve also been slowly replacing “odd gear” that doesn’t match majority of our hives (eg. lids, feeders, floors) so that everything will soon look more uniform - After a lick of paint that is 🎨

• Feed the hungry’s - Bees are such hard workers, and hard workers get hungry. We feed them sugar syrup and honey dilutions to keep them strong and healthy to last the winter.

And we do this 470 times to make sure every hive is checked and prepped for the cold 🥶

And that’s a wrap 🍾

2025, you were a beautifully challenging year for us and our business. Incredibly stretching, but oh so rewarding.

A massive thank you to everyone who has been supporting us along the way - from our day-ones to those who found us this year. We’ve been blown away by the support, love, and prayers from you both friend/family and stranger!

It’s time to close down the shop for the year while the girls (hopefully lol) bring in the honey and these keepers have a little break. Stay tuned for next year, we’ve got some new things heading your way 🌼🐝🍯✨

And just like that, our girls are down south for the summer 🌞

Another round of late nights and early mornings for our fam and we are knackered! But we are so grateful for another part of the season done! - Praise the Lord for His travelling mercies, His provision of sites, lovely friends to help, good shifting weather, and His strength to get us through these days with little sleep.

One last stint of honeytake next week (the last one for 2025 🥹) then a well sought NY Break for these 2 keepers 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏼‍♂️
