Revive Fitness is a boutique Reformer Pilates Studio nestled in the heart of Nelson’s CBD. Their small inner-city studio hosts small classes of up to eight people, where you have your own space and use of your own machine for the session, helping you to feel relaxed and comfortable.

Pilates offers a low impact and high intensity form of exercise which positively influences your overall spinal alignment and posture. Pilates not only strengthens your body, but it also builds lean muscle, increases your range of motion and improves spinal flexibility. With just the one machine, you can carry out a diverse range of exercises that increase strength, promote flexibility, and seriously improves your balance.

Regular sessions on the Reformer Pilates Machine can help shape and tone your body, strengthen your back, improve posture, increase mobility and give relief from aches and pains.

❄️ Autumn has given way to winter, and the days are getting noticeably colder and darker now, signaling a desire for hearty, nourishing meals and warm comforting treats.

Bryce, our Butcher, is kicking off our weekly Winter Staff Favourites with Smash Burgers. He has very kindly shared his method for making them below, so you can try them at home too.

The key ingredient is brisket mince, which has the perfect meat to fat ratio for burgers. Bryce starts by dividing the mince into four 100g balls. He heats the griddle on his BBQ until it is very hot, but you could also use a flat grill or cast-iron pan for this.

Slice your onion and arrange four slices on the grill. They take a little longer than the meat, so he starts them off first.

Place the brisket mince balls onto the grill and squash them until they’re really flat. This creates a Maillard reaction, which is a chemical process where amino acids and natural sugars in meat react at high temperatures, creating a savoury, golden-brown crust. It provides the signature complex flavour of a great burger and is fundamental for achieving restaurant-quality patties at home.

Season with salt and pepper and allow the first side to cook. Once cooked, flip the patties onto the onion slices so they meld together, season the second side and place a slice of Cheddar cheese on top, which will melt as the patty cooks.

Butter two Brioche Gourmet Burger Buns and toast them gently. Once the patties are cooked, stack two patties in each bun and add your favourite condiments. Bryce uses Kewpie mayonnaise and spicy Sriracha sauce in his burgers, but you could also use mustard if you preferred.

Lastly, add a few McClure’s Sweet Spicy Pickles, which are Bryce’s favourite and a must-have ingredient in his smash burgers.

One burger is usually enough, but you could also serve with a few fries if you wish.

Smash burgers are an easy and incredibly delicious meal to make at home. Bryce also loves the fact that they can be easily converted to be gluten-free by swapping out the buns, which he makes for his wife.
