The Go Eco Kai symposium in Kirikiriroa Hamilton was a wonderful opportunity to connect with whānau who are working on the ground in community food systems.

It was really humbling to hear the experience of people delivering food bank services, social supermarkets, cooked meals aka soup kitchens for those in need. Everyone agreed that the situation is dramatically worsening and that while we need to maintain the ‘ambulance at the bottom of the cliff’-type services, we desperately need to grow and build community capacity to feed ourselves!

Everyone was super interested in .hawkesbay and what we were able to achieve in a short space of time - it was a really nice affirmation of all the work gone into the initiative!

Our food systems workshop also clearly affirmed the collective experience - that the regulatory system is not fit for purpose when it comes to community food systems, and we need change that enables community groups to distribute quality Kai within their communities.

Big thanks to Hera Denton and her team for bringing us all together for such a great hui!!!

We have now recovered from what was an epic weekend! 😮‍💨A huge congratulations to the participants and crew for an epic event. We are so grateful for so many of you coming to eat with us at Hapī over your time in Hawkes Bay 🫶 a huge mihi also to our regulars for sticking by us even when we’re flat out. AND of course to our Hapī team that handled a huge weekend with such professionalism and skill

How awesome to see our beautiful city alive and pumping!! Looking forward to the next one 🏃‍♀️
