We have had a run of big steers the last few weeks. The biggest being a 620kg carcass weight animal.

At one stage we had a 620, 595, 527 , 485 and 482kg in the chiller all at once.

For myself and judas doing the slaughter its not really an issue doing the big boys, but when it comes to processing them its a different story. The fat can set like rock after they have finished the aging process, its take a lot of time and effort boning and triming all the excess fat.

Any homekill guys on here , whats the heaviest animal you've done ? A mate in the waikato done one over 900kg this year!

DAVE the tattooed Butcher.

Dave has been working at Plains Butchery since 1983.
In this quick little chat with Dave , we hear his story, his thoughts on what drove the closure of small retail butcher shops, what changes hes seen in the industry, what advice hes got for the younger generation and how much longer he has in him.

It was a awesome to hear , Dave is a top man and wears his heart on his sleeve. Behind the tattoos he is the most kind and caring person you could meet. He has an unbelievable drive and puts in 110 percent every single day. He is a true inspiration to be around.

To much Dave. We all appreciate what you have done and continue to do for Plains Butchery.

Here's a handful of before and after photos to show some of the work thats been done at the butchery over the last couple of years.

We have really maxed out our processing facility space wise , but we just make it work and get on with it. Who knows what the future holds. It would be awesome to build a new facility one day.

A quick look into our trustworthy 79 series V8 Toyota Landcruiser , that has been here there everywhere over the past 5 years.

Keep you eyes peeled later this year as we have something else in the pipeline that could be replacing / working alongside the Landcruiser.

Home Kill Trailer full walk through.

This is a video we took about 12 months ago . Since then, the Trailer has been put to work and tested in every way possible. Its been a game changer for our business and we would find it hard to operate without it.

We have made a few minor modifications since this video was taken. Including a big vent in the front of the box. Which increases air flow helping with the cooling with the animals. But more importantly stopped a dust issue we were having on some of the gravel roads.

We also have a video which goes through our landcruiser killing truck. If theres some interest we can upload that also.
