And for those who don’t have time to watch the whole podcast this is the bit (well one of them) that made the host snort with laughter. I think I might be getting blunter oops.
But I truely believe in what ever you do, find those doing it better and learn from them. We are all stronger when we support each other.

As a newbie to the flower farming industry ( 2 years now), I was surprised to be asked to chat to one of New Zealand’s best flower farmers Jo from Scrubby Gully on her podcast Flower Farming in NZ.

I just about said no, but in life I have found the good stuff happens where the fear is. So I bravely said yes.

Unlike most of her guests , which she manages to keep on task talking only flowers I manage to include all my passions! So if you take the time to listen you get some great insights on how I manage to grow bananas and citrus as well as flowers in a climate not known for those.

This last season I have grown my Facebook followers from around four hundred to close to eleven hundred, and am aware some of you don’t know who I am or why I do what I do. This podcast will fill in the gaps.

Need to process the orders that have come in.
Will put up another post once they are done.
Eek!
Dahlia Alert! -

Normally I don’t have to lift my dahlias for we are on lovely free draining soil, however the garden bed they were in is close to the hedge and I found this year they didn’t get sun early in the morning so made the big decision to lift them all!
New beds are formed but not quite ready to plant into so I am busy washing and dividing the tubers for storage. Always a big job!
I am going to have so many more than I need to replant my new patch so will be having a load for sale.
So if you are thinking of investing in dahlias this year reach out. I have many named ones and others that I have collected over the years (let’s be honest raided from my Mums garden🤣).
I only have ones that last in a vase, so loads of poms and tried and true varieties.
There is around 20 different varieties dug so far.

Somethings make my heart sing.
I often say I grow soil and insects instead of flowers. And there is a load of truth in that , for to grow flowers successfully I have to have beautiful microbial and fungus rich soils and loads of beneficial insects. So it does make my heart sing to see the last of the Monarches making the most of the glorious last day of autumn.
And a fun fact is there are four different types of bumblebees in NZ and I have every type in my garden.

It’s the last days of autumn and the beginning of my least favourite season winter. The only good thing about winter is it means we are three months away from Spring! And it seems nature thinks it might be closer, my peonies are already popping through the ground. The ranunculus and anemones in the tunnel houses are going really well so hopefully will have beautiful blooms by August.
Although the beds are looking quite bare there is still a few treasures to be found. Like this stunning delphinium , stock, the last of the chrissses and of course the ornamental brassicas are coming into their own.
So grateful for the time I took to dry flowers all season long, so little bunches are at Johnny Fresh in Darfield and bigger bouquets are being done to order.

I’m Back! I know you didn’t realise I went anywhere🤣.
The joy of running a business through such a public platform is it seems a wee bit silly to say when I am not about. But for the last few weeks I have been soaking up 30 degree day in the NT. I often say I am solar powered with a faulty battery system so I run out of power if not topped backed up regularly.
And it is so so good to be back. I put a heap of thought into my Autumnal picking garden this year and it has certainly paid off. All these beauties going out this morning. Celebrating the last lily of the season and the fact that stock are back. I love the smell of stock.
So if you are looking for seasonal blooms grown to organic standards with zero miles traveled (though my legs feel like I have walked miles this morning). Reach out for the flower season never really stops in my patch it seasonal and every season has it stars and beauty!

With Mothers Day just around the corner it is my pleasure to collaborate with Plattercakeplattercake on a real treat for that special Mum in your world.
What says have a great day more than the mix of cake and flowers?
The flowers have been picked and dried at their prime to ensure a beautiful long lasting keepsake. Or if fresh flowers is more your Mums style that to can be arranged. The cake on the other hand is designed not to last!
So pop over to Sam’s page to place an order. I am knee deep in mud and spring bulbs!
Thanks

What a wonderful way to spend a morning! Yesterday was so so special.

40 people wandering my flower patch picking to their hearts content . The vibe was magical.

So glad I decided to share the last of the summer blooms.

It has given me the energy to do the hard bits, one tunnel house has now been cleared completely, beds broadforked, compost added and now comes the fun part of planting them back out with the spring delights. Ranunculus and Anemones will be transplanted shortly for it’s only four months and eleven days to Spring! And last year I had Ranunculus and Anemones ready for harvest by the 3rd of August so here’s hoping I can pull that off again!
