Basic Poultry Facts Every Farmer Should Know 🐔🌾

Successful poultry farming is not just about buying birds and feeding them. Understanding the basic needs of your birds can make a huge difference in their growth, health, and profitability.

🐔 1. Good nutrition matters: Birds need balanced feed containing energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients for proper growth and production.

💧 2. Clean water is essential: Poultry birds can survive longer without feed than without water. Always provide clean, fresh water.

🏠 3. Proper housing: Good ventilation, adequate space, comfortable temperature, and a clean environment help reduce stress and disease.

🧼 4. Hygiene and biosecurity: Regular cleaning, proper disinfection, controlled visitors, and isolation of sick birds can help prevent disease outbreaks.

💉 5. Vaccination: Following an appropriate vaccination programme helps protect birds against common poultry diseases.

🌡️ 6. Temperature matters: Young chicks are especially sensitive to cold and require proper brooding conditions.

📈 7. Monitor your birds: Watch their feed intake, water consumption, growth, droppings, behaviour, and general appearance.

Remember: Healthy birds grow better, produce better, and give the farmer better returns. 🐔💚

Duroc and Pietran are excellent choices as terminal boars because they contribute valuable traits to market pigs.

🐖 Duroc is known for fast growth, good feed efficiency, strong performance, and excellent meat quality. When crossed with suitable females, Duroc can produce vigorous offspring with good growth and desirable carcass characteristics.

🐖 Pietran is particularly valued for its high lean-meat yield, muscularity, and excellent carcass traits. It can help produce pigs with less backfat and more lean meat.

The goal of using terminal boars is simple: produce high-performing offspring for the market, not replacement breeding stock.

👉 Choose your terminal boar based on your farm's breeding goals, market demand, and the qualities of your female line.

Smart breeding = better pigs + better carcasses + better returns.
