Today I want to tell a story about power, quiet, practical, and startlingly simple: the power that comes when women understand their money. As Program Manager for the African Women Leadership Forum & Fellowship (AWLFF), I watched this unfold in our second session on Financial Literacy, led by the brilliant Madam Zimkhitha Gova. In a room (virtual space) filled with 30 fellows from 6 African countries, plus our dedicated volunteers, the atmosphere shifted from curiosity to possibility. what unfolded felt less like a lecture and more like a hand being held while a map was unfolded.

Madam Zimkhitha began with a line that stuck with us: “Financial literacy gives her the power to turn care into strategy…” From there she walked us through what she calls the Glow-Up Guide: Finance Meets Leadership, not as a lecture, but as an invitation. She did something simple and brave: she made money feel like a language of power, not a source of shame. She walked us through practical frames, mastering personal budgets, decoding cash flow for small businesses, spotting real investment opportunities, and understanding the systems that shape our economic lives. Each concept landed with a practical example or a fintech tool we could actually use.

Numbers grounded the story: 30 fellows, 6 countries, and a team of volunteers, all participants, all contributors to the conversation.
