I saw this somewhere and decided to share.
How to keep cut apples from turning brown in our children lunch packs .
I always add apples to my kids lunch to school.
Here is how I keep them from browning. The browning issue can discourage parents from serving apples to school.
1st method -
Dissolve β
teaspoon salt water. Add the apple slices, let them soak for 1β3 minutes (be careful not to let the apple slices soak too long, or theyβll absorb the salty flavor), drain, and rinse the slices with fresh water
2nd Method -
Whisk honey into water and soak your apple slices in the mixture for 1β3 minutes. Drain and rinse with fresh water (or skip the rinse if you donβt mind the honey flavor)
3rd Method -
Add lemon (or other citrus) juice to water. Let the apple slices soak in the lemon water for 1β3 minutes, drain, and rinse. Or simply squeeze the juice of a lemon, lime, or orange directly onto the surface of the cut apples. Again, the citrus juice may impart a bit of flavor to the apples.
With any of these method say bye to your kids' apples turning brown.
These pictures were taken 2 hours after removing the apples from the salted water. I use salt because it's just faster.
Post edit Soaking in sugar solution and white vinegar also works effectively.
