Some customer requests will test your patience in this business. 😂😭
A customer reached out to me today because she wanted to buy a carton of noodles and a bag of Irish potatoes.
The noodles? No problem.
But Irish potatoes?
I don't sell Irish potatoes. 😂
And she was in Delta, so I couldn't just tell her to come to the shop and pick it up.
But because I like to help where I can, I told her I would ask around and find out how much a bag was going for.
She kept saying she wanted something around ₦6k.
I already knew that price sounded very far from what Irish potatoes were going for, but I still went ahead to check.
After asking around, I found out that a bag was around ₦75k.
I sent her the price.
And instead of “okay, thank you for checking,” the conversation somehow turned into:
“Are you adding your own money?” 😭
I tried explaining that I was only giving her the price I got from the person selling it.
I wasn't selling Irish potatoes.
I wasn't adding anything.
I was literally just trying to help her find out the price because she asked me to. 😂
But the more I explained, the more stressful the conversation became.
And honestly, there came a point where I just had to stop chatting.
Because one thing I'm learning as a business owner is:
You can't solve every problem for everybody.
Sometimes you genuinely want to help, but the conversation starts draining you.
And it's okay to know when to step back.
Anyway… today I learnt another small business lesson. 😂
Have you ever had a customer request that started simple and somehow became a whole episode? 😭😂
