PARDON GRANTED: Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has pardoned jailed native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, and appointed him as an ambassador for youth reformation in the state.
Nwangwu was among eight native doctors arrested last year over allegations bordering on the promotion of money rituals, quick-wealth practices and the use of human parts for wealth acquisition.
During his trial, Nwangwu entered a plea bargain and was subsequently sentenced to 11 months in prison.
While serving his sentence at the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Amawbia, he was required to renounce his previous practices and accept a role promoting youth reformation.
According to Dr Nelson Omenugha, the governor’s Special Adviser on Youth Reformation, Soludo visited the correctional centre and announced the pardon under his prerogative of mercy.
Nwangwu accepted the conditions and was serving his sentence before receiving the governor’s pardon.
Omenugha commended Soludo for extending what he described as a “hand of mercy” to Nwangwu and giving him a new responsibility as an Ambassador for Youth Reformation in Anambra State.
