WHEN MY HEART CANNOT FORGET IT.

I loved you in quiet ways,
In the spaces between my breaths,
In the soft hope of morrow
That whispered your name in my chest.

I gave you a heart so open,
But you that it in the art of disguise,
Believing your silence was gentle,
Not a storm in disguise.

But you turned like the wind,
Unannounced, without goodbye,
And chose another horizon
While I stood asking why.

Now every glimpse of your shadow
Shakes something broken in me,
My heart pounds like thunder in pain,
Longing for what cannot be.

It beats like a wounded drum,
Out of rhythm, confused, and loud,
Like a bombshell waiting to scatter
The pieces I cannot hold proud.

You left, and kept me
With a love that had nowhere to go,
Now even your presence in distance
Turns my warm days cold.

So I choose the silence of your absence,
The healing that distance can give,
For some hearts must walk away bleeding
Just to remember how to live.

LONELY WORLD
I sat…
On a mournful road—
Not just a road,

But a path that stole everything from me.
With thousands of tears
Fighting for space in my eyes,
I kept looking… staring…
At the same road
That took my parents away.
Tell me

O road,
Where are my parents?
Did you hide them in your dust?
Did the wind carry their voices away?
Because here I am…
Helpless
Drowning in the silence
Of parting days.

Can someone
Tell me where they travelled to?
Because loneliness…
Loneliness has become my daily bread,
And my heart
My fragile, trembling heart
Quakes like a bomb waiting to explode.

Who will pay my fees now?
Who will call my name
The way only they did?

Tell me…
Why cut down the tree
That gave me shade?
Why destroy the place
Where I found rest?
What a world
A deeply melancholic world.

Sometimes I wish…
I could wear their gown,
Step into their place,
Just to feel them close again.

NIGERIA
Nigeria my country
The Giant of Africa in the ancient blood
Nigeria of whom my grandmother sings
Behind the bank of distance river
Who diverted your glory?

I cannot deny you
Because your blood flows in my veins
The blood of your sweat
The sweat of your work
Your beautiful black blood now irritates

Nigeria tell me who do this to you?
When will this painful pleasure ends?
But the grave voice should answer me
Is this your glory that is bent
The broken glory under the weight of
man inhumanity to man

Your glory splendidly fades away
Like the daughter of Sundiata
May we experience the bitter taste of freedom
From political colony
