Condolence Message
On behalf of Sheikh Muhammad Yahqub Imolesin Al-Haqeeqy and the entire members of the Yorubaland Council of Islamic Preachers (YLCIP), Ogun State Chapter, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the good people of Ijebu Ode and the entire Ijebuland on the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, the Awujale of Ijebu Ode and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland — Amīr al-Mulūk al-Muslimīn (Leader of all Muslim Kings in Yorubaland).
The revered monarch peacefully answered the call of Almighty Allah on Sunday evening and was laid to rest according to Islamic rites on Monday.
Late Oba Adetona was a devout Muslim, a true believer, and a servant of Allah whose reign exemplified courage, justice, and service to humanity. His leadership went beyond the traditional institution — he was a trailblazer in advancing sociopolitical reforms and a strong advocate for the religious rights of traditional rulers. One of his most impactful legacies was his firm stance against the forced blending of traditional religion with cultural practices. This led to his remarkable motion, which was passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly and signed into law by Governor Dapo Abiodun, ensuring that traditional rulers could be buried according to the tenets of their religious faith.
His unwavering support for Islam and the Muslim Ummah across Ijebuland and Ogun State earned him the historic appointment by the League of Imams and Alfas of Yorubaland as the first Amīr al-Mulūk al-Muslimīn in Yorubaland.
He will be fondly remembered for fostering unity across religious divides and for upholding the values of integrity, tolerance, and respect throughout his reign.
We pray that Almighty Allah accepts his return, forgives his shortcomings, and grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Translation:
O Allah, indeed he is Your servant and the son of Your maidservant. You have taken his soul and separated it from his body. So be kind to him during his trial. Have mercy on him on the day of loneliness, have mercy on him on the day of estrangement, have mercy on him on the day when neither wealth nor children will avail, and have mercy on him on the day when every soul will be preoccupied with its own affairs.
