🌿 Nature’s Tiny Warriors in Action! 🐞

Over the past week, my wormwood was under siege by aphids—but ladybugs came to the rescue! These incredible predators slowly but surely cleared the pests, proving once again that nature has its own balance.

Did you know?
🐜 Aphids suck sap from plants, weakening them and spreading disease.
🐞 Ladybugs (and their larvae!) are voracious aphid-eaters—a single one can devour 50+ aphids a day!
🌼 Plants like wormwood, yarrow, and dill attract beneficial insects that keep pests in check.

By growing diverse, chemical-free gardens, we create havens for pollinators and pest controllers. Every little ecosystem helps! 🌍✨

Update on the Taatsu’s winter garden 2025

1. Yarrow flower - Yellow Yarrow (Achillea filipendulina) is a hardy perennial with bright golden-yellow flower clusters and fern-like foliage. Growing 2-4 feet tall, it blooms from summer to fall, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it thrives in poor soil. Traditionally used in herbal medicine, yellow yarrow aids digestion, reduces inflammation, and promotes wound healing. It also enriches garden soil and repels pests.

2. Ashwagandha with with garlic and feverfew in the background. - Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)is an adaptogenic herb known for reducing stress, boosting energy, and improving sleep. It supports immune function, enhances cognitive performance, and may balance hormones. Traditionally used in Ayurveda, its roots are consumed as powder, tea, or capsules. Easy to grow, drought-resistant, and beneficial for overall vitality and mental clarity.

3. Red mustard and Korean radish - Red Mustard and Korean Radish are nutrient-packed, easy-to-grow crops. Red mustard boasts spicy, antioxidant-rich leaves, perfect for salads and stir-fries, while Korean radish (mu) has crisp, mildly sweet roots used in kimchi, soups, and pickles. Both thrive in cool weather, improve soil health, and deter pests. Rich in vitamins and minerals, they support digestion and immunity, making them flavorful and functional additions to any garden or diet.

4 and 5. Carrots, beetroots and nasturtiums - Carrots, Beetroots & Nasturtiums make a vibrant, synergistic trio in the garden. Carrots (rich in beta-carotene) and beetroots (packed with iron and antioxidants) thrive together, as their root depths complement each other. Nasturtiums act as a natural pest deterrent, repel aphids, and attract pollinators with their edible, peppery blooms. All three prefer well-drained soil and sun, with nasturtiums also tolerating partial shade. This combination maximizes space, boosts soil health, and provides a colorful, nutrient-dense harvest—perfect for salads, juices, and garnishes!
