The Cherry Tomato You asked for it!!! Follow my culinary adventures as I venture into the world of simple culinary d

After a lot of harassing and pushing by my lovely friends and family, I decided to put up a page dedicated to my culinary adventures. I love to cook and to be honest, the kitchen is really my favourite room in the house. Cooking to me is cathartic and is my escape from the every day norms of life ( I also dabble in drinking wine as I cook, its inspiring)

I appreciate all of you taking this journey with me

A poke bowl is always a win especially if 1. You love fish 2. You’re looking for a healthy easy and quick meal.

Leftover rice is your friend. I’m using black rice in mine (I bought the black rice from a Chinese supermarket in Daresalaam 😁 but I’m sure it’s also available in Nairobi) Don’t overcomplicate the meal. Carrots, cucumber, edamame , cucumber and radishes, oh and mango are the perfect veg/fruit combo.

As for the furikake, any good supermarket with an Asian section should have it (in KE Chandarana always have it, in TZ Village supermarket always have it) It’s basically a mix of seaweed, sesame seeds and dried fish flakes and is great in poke bowls, noodles and rice dishes.

Make this and thank me later ☺️ Bon apetit!

Sundays is when I usually cook at home and this one Sunday we just wanted a nice sammich so we made this chicken parmigiana sandwich. Simple, tasty and filling. Some chicken breast dredged in flour, egg and spicy breadcrumbs…topped with a homemade tomato sauce and cheese, into a toasted ciabatta bun.

All were fed and full… glad to report the sandwich was a hit.

The second edition of ‘iNGO’is here. ‘iNGO’….a luhya word meaning home.

Home is where the heart is, where we make memories and often where we break bread together; as family, friends, lovers, visitors.

Lakeside Luster is the second in this
series of 6 pop up dinners that will explore the foods from different parts of east Africa.

This edition takes us to Luo Nyanza, my other ancestral home, my father’s home a place and a culture that I am still discovering.

We will enjoy the familiar and the new paired with specially curated wines (And for those who don’t drink alcohol, we will also have curated non alcoholic options to compliment your meals)

One of my favorite things to eat is a tuna carpaccio or ceviche or kokoda. Basically raw fish cured or served with some kind of citrus.

There’s something beautiful about the simplicity of the dish. It’s not pretentious or complicated… just fresh, simple and quite tasty.

Grapes on a pizza….sounds a bit mad but when you think about it, it’s actually not.

Hear me out, how many times have you seen and eaten the grapes on a charcuterie board with cheese? I’ll admit, it’s not the best looking pizza (I don’t have a clay oven lol and SOMEONE has my pizza tray with the holes in it…whoever you are please bring it back 😭😭) And in spite of how it looks, it’s actually quite delicious.

Give it a try and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Recipe for a simple pizza dough is in the link in bio

Salmon is one of my favorite fish to eat.

One thing many people don’t know though is that there is still so much flavor and fish on some of the less popular parts like the collar and the head. I’ve found most fishmongers locally don’t separate the collar but instead have the head with a part of the collar.

The head is an affordable way to access the fish and in-fact you can use the head for soups which I often do as well as a great piece to grill and serve with some potatoes. Seasoned well and handled right, this is a very affordable way to access salmon.

Happy Mother’s Day to all my mamas out there ❤️

This isn’t a Mother’s Day meal but it’s an easy meal to make for your mama. Seasoned beef mince and some roast veg on a bard of creamy tangy labneh and a side of pita for mop up all the goodness (also a great meal for our health freaks and gym …just swap the pita for sweet potatoes)

Sweater weather is almost here and what better way to ease into the cooler temperatures than a simply bowl of cosy food. It helps that these recipes have been trending so I tried my own recipe and used some black rice I found at the Chinese supermarket when I traveled to Tanzania.

I love the contrast of using the black rice against the red curry and the beautiful greens and purples in the bowl.

Give this super easy recipe a try…great for meal prep and an easy family meal
