“Life is to live in such a way, that we are not afraid to die.”
– St. Teresa of Ávila
St. Teresa of Ávila reminds us that the ultimate purpose of life is not simply to exist but to live in such a way that death does not frighten us. This means living with a clear conscience, grounded in faith, virtue, and love of God. Death, for the faithful, is not the end but a passage into eternal life.
When our daily choices reflect truth, charity, humility, and trust in God, we prepare our souls for the moment we will meet Him face to face. Instead of fearing the unknown, we find peace in knowing that our lives have been aligned with the will of God. True freedom from the fear of death comes when we have lived fully in the grace of Christ.
This wisdom challenges us to consider how we are living today. Are our actions rooted in love? Are we forgiving and merciful? Are we keeping our eyes fixed on eternity? St. Teresa invites us to live deeply, joyfully, and faithfully—so that death is no longer something to dread, but a doorway to eternal union with God.
Prayer
O Lord of Life and Eternal Truth,
teach us to live in such a way that we are always ready to meet You.
Give us the courage to walk in holiness, the strength to resist sin,
and the peace that comes from trusting in Your mercy.
Through the intercession of St. Teresa of Ávila,
may we grow in love, faith, and surrender to Your will.
Help us to live every day as a preparation for eternity,
so that when our time comes, we may not fear death,
but embrace it as the beginning of everlasting life with You.
Amen.
