How to use Ash to boost your crop production:

I once visited a lady to help her set up a commercial farm. I was excited to find her with a heap of wood ash, but when I mentioned that that waste would be very important in our project, she looked at me in the typical African mama's way, doubt written all over her face.

I know she is not alone; many people do not know they can use wood ash to significantly boost their crop productivity. Ash has 3 main qualities that are important in soil amendment:

1. Rich in nutrients: Ash is rich in nutrients like calcium Potassium and Magnesium. These nutrients are important in the growth of your crops.

2. Reduces soil acidity: Ash is basic in nature. When you add it to your soil, it increases the pH of your soil (makes it less acidic). This helps the plants to absorb the available soil nutrients better.

3. Reduces pest attack: Sprinkling ash around your crops wades away pests, especially slags. Incorporating it into the soil during land preparation has also been found to reduce nematode attacks due to the disinfectant quality of ash.
