Are you feeling stuck in your job? As a HR Professional, I recommend you check on the following; Remember - Promotions are not gifts but rather a demand you place because of your change of status.
1. Re-wire your mindset by upgrading it. How? By bettering your skills and acquiring new competencies. Think improvement, imagine no one cares how long you’ve been on your job, if you cannot be felt through how you impact your organization’s growth, you will remain just there;
2. Own your job whether you own the company or not by simply becoming the go-to person, and everything will come to you. Stop doing shoddy work at your current job, you are sabotaging yourself. How can you own your job? By becoming better every day, perfect your skills or learn new competencies every day;
3. Invest in self-improvement through reading of books, attending workshops/seminars, enquire from those ahead of you/ those that seem to be moving up, be teachable and opportunities will begin to show up through referrals and by the results you achieve;
4. Be reliable but with boundaries, deliver what you are entrusted with, volunteer in projects, even if from a different department to gain various practical skills, hold others up. By being reliable but with boundaries I mean, let people know that you are open to helping but not to doing even what should be done by them.
5. Imitate the hen’s attitude – you know how after it lays a single egg the whole village must know? Similarly, let those that matter at your workplace know what you are working on, what you are achieving and how it is helping your organization. You are your own BRAND AMBASSADOR.
Remember to wear a positive attitude in all this.
