One of the major festivals celebrated with much pomp in India, Makar Sankranti holds great significance for Hindus. The festival is considered auspicious for tenacity, worship, charity and sacrifice in the scriptures. Makar Sankranti, or simply Sankranti, is dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun God) and marks the sun's transit into Makara (Capricorn) raashi (zodiac sign). It marks the beginning of the harvest season when people worship new crops and share them with delight.

In most regions, Sankranti festivities last for two to four days. People worship the Sun God during the festival. They also go for a holy dip in sacred water bodies, perform charity by giving alms to the needy, fly kites, prepare sweets made of sesame and jaggery, worship livestock and more.
Additionally, Khichdi is made and consumed during this festival, especially in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.

Prathamastami is a festival held in Odisha and parts of south-western West Bengal for the life and prosperity of the eldest child who is offered a lighted lamp ovation by the senior female relatives followed by elaborate rituals during which the Mantras are recited.
The elder ones in the family are treated in a special way that day and the most awaited Enduri Pitha/Haldi patra pitha is cooked and served to all. Get Back to Nature brings Fresh, Flavourful and Organic Turmeric leafs for you to prepare this delicacy.

Enduri Pitha/Haldi patra pitha recipe:

Ingredients
4 servings
2 cup raw rice
1 cup urad dal (black gram)
1 tsp ghee
2 cups grated coconut
1/2 cup sugar/ jaggery
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
To taste salt
10-12 green turmeric leaves washed
As needed oil for greasing
Steps
Soak the rice and urad dal for 6-7 hours or overnight.
Drain, rinse and grind them to a thick batter (i.e. like idli batter).
Keep it for 10-12 hours for fermentation.
Add salt to the fermented batter and mix well.
Heat ghee in a pan. Add grated coconut and sugar/ jagerry together and saute for a while till the mixture becomes dry. Add cardamom powder, pepper powder and mix well. Keep it aside.
Now preheat the steamer with some water.
Take a whole turmeric leaf. If it is of bigger size you may trim it. Add 2-3 drops of oil and smear all over the leaf. Take a blob of the batter and spread evenly on the leaf. Spread 2-3 tsp of coconut stuffing over the batter. Fold the leaf carefully from both sides. Repeat the process for the remaining batter and leaves.
Put the stuffed leaves in the steamer. The leaves can be stacked one over the other for 2-3 layers. Close the lid and steam for 12 -15 minutes.
Take them out of the steamer, remove the turmeric leaves and serve the 'pitha' with matar curry.

Chhath Puja is a festival devoted to Sun God Surya and his wife Usha, who is also known as Chhathi Maiya. During Chhath Puja, people thank Lord Surya, the god of energy and life-force for sustaining the life of Earth. Being the most prominent festival of Bihar and Jharkhand, Chhath Puja is celebrated with great zeal. This involves the offering of 'Arghya' by fasting women to the Sun god in knee-deep water. The Chhath Puja is celebrated on the sixth day of the Kartik month of the Hindu calendar, which is also the fourth day after Diwali.

The four-day celebration period of Chhath Puja, dedicated to the Sun God, see rituals known as Prathihar, Dala Chhath, Chhathi, and Surya Shashthi.
On the first day, ‘Nahay Khay’, a traditional meal, is prepared and served in the afternoon. On the second day of the Puja, worshippers observe ‘Nirjala Vrata’ (fast without drinking even a drop of water) and they break their fast only in the evening after worshipping the sun during sunset. The third day of the Puja is called ‘Sandhya Arghya’ and devotees again observe a day-long fast and break it only the following day after sunrise. The festivities conclude on the fourth day after devotees perform the ‘Usha Arghya’ (offering prayers to the rising sun).
