After harvest, proper drying of paddy is an important step to maintain grain quality.

In this process, we carefully dry the paddy under controlled conditions to reduce moisture and prevent spoilage. Factors like excess moisture, improper drying, and contamination can affect the quality of the grain if not handled correctly.

At Mudfield Farms, we take several precautions during drying, handling, and packing to ensure the paddy remains clean, safe, and suitable for storage and transport.

Today we visited a traditional rice field where we observed mixed crops among the main variety. Maintaining seed purity in traditional varieties is not as simple as it looks.

For a farmer, preserving a pure seed line requires constant monitoring, careful selection, and patience throughout the season. Even small variations in the field can affect the integrity of the variety.

Karuppu Kavuni Seed Farm — Harvest Update

Harvest has begun at our Karuppu Kavuni seed farm. This harvest is carefully planned to store high-quality seeds for the next season.

To avoid cross-contamination, the harvesting machine is thoroughly cleaned before entering the field. The initial harvest, which may contain mixed seeds, is bagged separately. Only after this process do we continue with harvesting the pure, unmixed seeds.

We also checked the dropped straw to ensure no rice grains were wasted.
By God’s grace, it has been a damage-free harvest this year.
