1.Common Adulterants
Cheaper Vegetable Oils: These are the most frequent additions, used because they are less expensive than pure coconut oil.
2.Palm Oil (or Palm Kernel Oil) - This is a very common adulterant because its physical and chemical characteristics are similar to coconut oil, making it difficult to detect.
3.Testa Oil (or Paring Oil): Oil extracted from the brown skin (testa) of the
coconut, which is a byproduct of coconut processing. This oil is typically of lower quality than that extracted from the kernel.
4.Mineral Oil (like Paraffin): This is highly hazardous to health.
Hydrogenated Fats or Paraffin Wax:
Used to mimic the solid consistency of pure coconut oil.
5.Synthetic Antioxidants: Used to clean up and mask the poor quality, odor, and color of adulterated or inferior-grade oil.
Adulteration not only dilutes the nutritional value of pure coconut oil but also poses health risks due to the potential presence of harmful or toxic substances.😳😳😳
