A blessed St.Johns day to you all.
Much of Nenagh from the holy well to the great Abbey at Ti Eoin is dedicated to the feast of St.John.
There is a rare blooming of the elusive bee orchid in the sandy callows by the Nenagh’s river .
These little rare and beautiful plants are no match for herbicide or the powerfull strimmer of industrial maintenance. They are making a great show on the gravel banks of the industrial estate.
If you want to park near the Lunch factory and lorry depot you will find them on a grassy bank to the eastern side of the park.
You may also search just beside the NCT centre .
Tread carefully and you are in the presence of greatness .

A short night and the longest days . The soil is warming and all is growing . Mange tout flowering and lettuce filling out. Pink blooms on the potatoes and saffron coloured marigold shining like fog lights in the nearing dusk.
The swallows are roosting and the bats head out to dance like all the youth of Spain ,France and Italy who celebrate johns eve or as we say in Gaelic oiche San Shean .
It’s midsummer and a time of both Christian reverence and pagan merriment . A time of bonfires and new milk cheeses . Curds and herbs and boiled new potatoes with salt and creamy summer butter .
Note the meadowsweet and the wild orchids on the river bank . The briers or drisoga are in full bloom and a great crop of blackberrys is promised. The wild bees are harvesting the wild roses and the scent of nectar is in the air.
We will soon have local raspberries and today we picked wild strawberries in the ditches .
We had our first summer picnic with the children by the lake and the air was balmy . Today we planted sunflower seeds in tins and buckets and they will remind us with every days growth of the little hands that planted them .
Beir bua and enjoy the lovely fine days after all the days of deluge.

A midsummer morning and it’s the real deal .
Meadows being cut and the pervasive scent of fresh grass. An Amazonian type growth on the river bank and the hounds are hunting in their heads .
Bread to be made and black pudding to be fried .
Beef to be roasted and soups to be made .
Rosê chilling ,vegetables roasting . #

New Rose from Spain has just arrived . A serious wine with a long summery finish with red berries on the nose.New potatoes on the horizon and fresh buffalo mozzarella just in from Italy .
Summer grilling and summer chilling . Take advantage of the long evening and bring a mac in your back pack!!
