🌿 WHY WE CHOOSE ORGANIC — AND WHY IT MATTERS HERE IN INDONESIA

Did you know that conventional farming in Indonesia uses pesticides an average of 5.7 times per growing season? 🚨

Farming in Indonesia is hard work. And for most farmers, pesticides are simply the tools that have been made available, affordable, and promoted for decades.

Here's what's commonly used in conventional Indonesian agriculture:
🧪 Organophosphates — widely used insecticides, restricted in many countries due to health concerns at even low doses.
🌾 Pyrethroids, Avermectins & Milbemycins — making up over 90% of registered insecticide active ingredients across Indonesia's 1,059+ registered insecticide brands.
☠️ Organochlorines — a chemical family that includes DDT. Largely phased out, but residues still linger in soil across the archipelago.

These chemicals are used because the system was built around them — subsidised by government for decades, aggressively marketed, and often the only affordable option available.

Not everyone has access to organic alternatives. Not everyone has been given information about the risks.

🙏 For those of us who do have access and choice — choosing organic is one small way to support a different kind of farming. One that's gentler on the soil, the farmer, and the people eating the food.

Make it at home 🛖
Shred kale, massage with a little olive oil. Add raw beetroot, orange or apple, a handful of nuts. Drizzle more olive oil. Done. Easy side.

Want it as a main 🏡
Add cooked, cooled black beluga lentils. Now you’ve got fiber, iron, vitamin C—and dinner sorted in under 30 mins.

For over 10 years I thought exhaustion was just part of being a woman.

Low energy.
Brain fog.
Aching body.
Running on empty while trying to do everything.

I see it in so many women around me too . Many of us accept feeling depleted as normal.

But one major cause is often overlooked: low iron.

Women between 15–50 years old typically need around 18–25 mg of iron per day to maintain healthy stores. Between menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, stress and busy lifestyles, many women simply do not consume enough.

Iron is essential for oxygen transport, energy production and brain function. When levels drop, symptoms can look like burnout:

• constant fatigue
• brain fog
• poor focus
• feeling cold
• low resilience

So what can you do, especially living in Indonesia?

If you are vegan or vegetarian, focus on iron-rich plant foods such as:

• chickpeas
• lentils
• tofu
• tempeh
• pumpkin seeds
• sesame seeds (tahini)
• spinach and other dark leafy greens
• quinoa
• cashews
• dried apricots and raisins

Pair these foods with vitamin C sources like lime, citrus, guava or papaya to improve iron absorption.

You can also include mineral foods like sea moss, which contain small amounts of iron along with iodine, magnesium and other trace minerals that support energy and overall nutrient balance.

If you eat meat, some of the most iron-dense foods include:

• liver and organ meats
• organ meat powders
• beef and steak
• lamb
• pork
• sardines and anchovies
• shellfish like clams or mussels
• bone broth

Sometimes exhaustion is not just stress or being busy. Sometimes the body is simply missing essential nutrients.

If you constantly feel tired, foggy or depleted, it may be worth checking your iron and ferritin levels.
