Happy Halloween, asparagus loving freaks... 🎃💀🎃👻🎃

Finally... with wet soil and more rain forecast, there's an opportunity to top up the nutrient needs of the crop to try keep the fern green and healthy into the autumn.

OK, I'm not the tallest of chaps but it's lovely to see the fern from a crop we ceased harvesting from one month ago, towering above me. Healthy, so far but if we don't get rain soon, lack of water will surely stress the crop. 😬

Planted 2024, we had a short five weeks harvest from this field and stopped cutting on 21st May. And now look, fern, glorious fern. I love it. 💚💚💚

A strange one to end the season - two Immigration Enforcement Officers turning up to do a spot check after a 'tip off' we might be illegally employing overseas workers. Glad to say they left the farm happy and with a greater understanding of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme.
Someone clearly bears a grudge. Perhaps they bought a dodgy bunch of asparagus. 😉😂

It doesn't get simpler... Sand Hutton Asparagus, our own eggs, Lincolnshire new potatoes from Paleys of Malton, sumptuous thick sliced ham from Riverside butchersyork and a homemade lemon and dill dressing.
Making the most of the last week of harvest.

Making the most of the last week of our Yorkshire asparagus season.
Yes, lovely friends, the season is coming to a close and it's time to let those green spears grow and develop into beautiful fern. We are harvesting all week and will be open for sales in our shop until Sunday 14th June.
Grab it whilst you can. 😀

Hard to believe folks but here we are at the end of May and you all know what that means... the end of the 2026 asparagus season is fast approaching. Come and get it, while you can. 😋😋😋
