Important information from your Community Shop and Post Office

Please be aware that during our closure from 25th June to 10th July there will be no Local Collect or Amazon collections or online/shopping returns. All Post Office services have to be suspended during this period.

As many of you will know, our shop and post office will be undergoing some building work and because of this, it has to close from 25th June until 10th July. (Subject to everything going to plan.)

For that time, we will be situated in the Village Hall providing you with daily papers, bread and milk from 9am to 11am every morning. Unfortunately, we will be unable to operate the post office but we will have some stamps. If there is anything you would like us to stock during this period, please let the shop know in advance, we will do our best to oblige.

When we reopen, we look forward to welcoming you all back and if you are not already a customer, please come in, we may surprise you with the variety of services we offer. You may even decide to volunteer behind the counter. We look forward to seeing you.

Important information from your Community Shop and Post Office

If anyone can help, we need the use of a transit sized van for a few hours on 25th and 26th June to move current stock to a storage unit in the village and similarly to take it back ten days later. Please contact the shop on 01275 472222. We have plenty of volunteers ready to load up but lack transport and a driver.

When we reopen, we look forward to welcoming you all back and if you are not already a customer, please come in, we may surprise you with the variety of services we offer. You may even decide to volunteer behind the counter. We look forward to seeing you.

By now you have probably heard that Chew Magna Post Office is very sadly due to close in March. This is obviously bad news for the Post office employees and the residents of Chew Magna, but the thought may also have crossed your mind about how safe is Winford Post Office?

To answer this, a brief explanation of how the business runs is needed.
Since 2019, the post office in Winford has been run for the benefit of the community as part of the community shop. Since then, Post Office Ltd has not paid any salary, as used to happen in the past. Instead, Post Office Ltd pay Winford Community Shop and Post Office commission on every transaction. These include postal services, parcel collections and returns, banking etc, and the paid member of staff is kept busy with this all day. However, this commission does not cover their salary for 5 and a half days a week plus overheads, and so profits from the shop have to be used to subsidise the post office. Essentially, the business model only works because the shop itself is staffed by volunteers.

So, what does this mean for us all? In summary, as long as the shop has enough customers to make enough profit to subsidise it, the post office will continue to exist. Therefore, if you are already a customer, thank you and please keep coming in and spending money. If you have not been in the shop for a while, come along and have a look at what we stock: fresh bread, cakes , pastries, fresh fruit and veg, free range eggs, milk on tap, dry cleaning, freshly made sandwiches, hot pasties, pies, frozen ready meals, wine, beer, greeting cards, freshly made coffee and more. You will be amazed at how much a village shop can offer!

The shop is open 364 days per year, and there's nearly always parking right outside so you don't have to carry heavy bags home. Whether you want a regular selection of groceries every week, or just the odd gift card and bottle of wine, our friendly staff will always be pleased to see you and help you find what you are looking for.
