Nicholson’s of Whitley Bay is an award winning butchers' in the North East of England.

The shop was founded in 1914 has relied heavily on local Northumbrian Produce to build the establishment and achieve a great reputation in the world of independent meat and butchery. Building and maintaining a strong relationship with local Northumbrain farmers who are passionate about the animals they raise and truly care about fresh produce is one of the key elements to the success of Nicholson’s. Quality and provenance is second to none and almost everything in the shop is prepared in house. It is the place to visit for the very best in home dining; with a range of products including – Homemade Pies prepared fresh everyday, Northumbrian beef and lamb sourced direct from local farms, homemade sausages prepared by our skilled butchers. Summer BBQ packs catering for a range of numbers including the charcoal and BBQ delivered to your venue along with fresh turkeys and all the trimmings for your perfect Christmas Day.

MEET KATHRYN! 👋 The 4th Generation of Nicholson's Butchers!

There's over 110 years of history behind Nicholson's, and today we're sharing a little more about the person behind the business!

Kathryn is the fourth generation of the Nicholson family to run the shop, and the first woman to take the reins!

But her journey into the family business wasn't quite a straight one...

After studying Food Science & Nutrition at university, Kathryn went on to work in the food industry, including product development at Morrisons' Head Office, before making the decision to return to Whitley Bay and join the family business.

Since then, she's been passionate about building on everything the generations before her created, whilst bringing her own ideas, enthusiasm and direction to Nicholson's.

For Kathryn, it's about so much more than just selling great meat. It's about quality, consistency and customer service, supporting a brilliant team, building relationships with local farmers and suppliers, and making sure Nicholsons continues to be a business the local community can be proud of.

And what does she love most? The people! From the team who work so hard behind the scenes to the wonderful customers who support us every day. ❤️

Same family, same values, with plenty of exciting plans for the future!

🥓 NEW IN! BACON CHOPS! 🥓

Something a little different has landed in our counter this week!

Ever tried a bacon chop? Think of a lovely thick-cut pork chop, but cured just like traditional bacon, giving you all that wonderful savoury, smoky-style bacon flavour in a proper juicy chop!

They're absolutely delicious, incredibly easy to cook and perfect for a quick midweek dinner.

Simply pan-fry or grill until beautifully golden and serve with creamy mash, a wholegrain mustard sauce and some green beans. Proper comfort food! 😋

🍂 PHEASANTS ARE BACK! 🍂

A true taste of autumn has returned to Nicholsons!

We're delighted to have fresh pheasants back in store from Thursday!

If you've never tried pheasant before, now's the perfect time! It's a fantastic seasonal alternative to chicken, with a wonderfully rich, slightly gamey flavour that's delicious without being overpowering.

Pheasant is naturally lean, high in protein and incredibly versatile. Roast it whole with a little streaky bacon, gently braise it with c***r and apples, or slow-cook it in a hearty casserole with mushrooms and red w**e. Perfect autumn comfort food! 🍷

We love making the most of British seasonal produce, and pheasant is definitely one to enjoy at this time of year.

Last night, we had the pleasure of collaborating with District W**e, pairing five of our delicious dishes with five gorgeous w**es in their fabulous bottle shop, just around the corner from us on Park View!

What an incredible little venue and such a brilliant evening to be part of. We were absolutely delighted to be asked to collaborate, bringing together great food, wonderful w**es and lovely company!

It was so nice to see some familiar faces and meet lots of new ones too.

A huge thank you to the team at District W**e for inviting us along and to everyone who joined us. We loved every minute!

Nicholson’s has been part of Whitley Bay since 1914, and more than 110 years later, we’re still incredibly proud to be doing what we do best: traditional butchery, great food and looking after our customers.

Now in our fourth generation, we’re a family business with a brilliant team of skilled butchers, bakers and food-loving people behind everything you see in our shop.

🥩 We buy whole carcass beef, pork and lamb and butcher traditionally here in store.
🌾 We work with fantastic farmers and suppliers, with a real focus on provenance and quality.
🔪 Our beef is dry aged for a minimum of 21 days.
🥧 Our bakery team makes our pies, quiches, sausage rolls, Scotch eggs and much more right here above the shop.
🌭 We make our own sausages and burgers, prepare our own ready meals and continually develop new products for our counters.

But Nicholson’s has never just been about what we sell.

For us, it’s about Quality, Consistency & Customer Service.
