Simmons Scratchings G Simmons & Sons Pork Scratchings company is based in Walsall, just off Green Lane. Available in stores such as Asda, and also open to the general public.

G Simmons and Sons has been established for over 40 years beginning with Graham, and later joined by his sons Shaun and Mark. The business started out as a butchers shop which manufactured much of its produce at the back of the shop. These included sausage, burgers, black pudding, faggots, cooked meats and of course pork scratchings. In fact, over 30 years ago G Simmons and Sons were being recognised for the quality of their pork scratchings when they came second in a competition, beaten only by a producer who bought their scratchings from G Simmons and Sons and had them packed in his own name. The butcher shop was eventually closed and pork scratchings were produced at the back of the shop full time. In 1994 following new regulation from Brussels, G Simmons And Sons was relocated to Walsall where a new purpose built unit was built with the sole purpose of producing pork scratchings. It was one of the first food manufacturers in Walsall to receive an EEC food licence meaning they could not only supply to the UK but also export anywhere in Europe. It was soon apparent that the unit was not big enough to cope with demand and so they purchased the unit next door and eventually expanded into the room above the ground floor adding mezzanine floors to both units. Today the brand is recognised through out the Midlands and beyond, but they do not only supply their own brand but also pack their scratchings for other companies in their brand name, so who knows you may have already eaten their famous Pork Scratchings and not realised, other than thinking ‘mmm those were excellent’.

A little update from us! ❤️🐷

As promised, we wanted to give you all another update on how things are progressing!

We’re delighted to say that our new cooking factory is now almost complete and looking absolutely fantastic! After everything we’ve been through, it’s amazing to see it all coming together, and we genuinely can’t wait to get back to doing what we do best!

As many of you know, we were hopeful of being back in production before Christmas. Whilst we’re still on track to hopefully be ready towards the end of November, we’ve made the decision to aim for a full restart at the beginning of January instead.

This will give us time to get everything running smoothly, retrain our staff and build up some stock before we start fulfilling orders again. We’d much rather take a little extra time to get everything right than rush things through before Christmas.

We’re also hoping to reopen our factory shop during January! 🙌🏻

Nothing is officially confirmed just yet, but we’re feeling much more confident about our timescales and hope to confirm our production restart and shop reopening dates within the next month.

We’ve included a few progress photos so you can see how far we’ve come! 📸 We have our new built in freezer, chopping room, boot wash room and the boiler room itself with all 40 boilers being fixed and sorted as we speak.

We’ve also shared a photo of our original factory site, which has now been demolished following the fire. We’re currently working on the design plans to rebuild this site into a brand-new, purpose-built packing factory. So although we’re getting close to restarting production, there’s still another exciting chapter of the rebuild ahead of us!

We know many of you were hoping to have your favourite Scratchings, Crackling & Crunch back in time for Christmas, and we’re sorry we won’t quite make it. Believe us, nobody wants to get those cookers fired up again more than we do!

A little update from us…

We’ve had a few minor delays over the last couple of weeks, but things are continuing to move in the right direction and we’re still hopeful that we’ll be back producing before Christmas — fingers crossed!

There’s still work to be done and, as we’ve learnt throughout this whole process, unexpected things can crop up along the way, so we don’t want to give you a definite date just yet. As soon as we’re confident enough to do that, you’ll all be the first to know.

The new cooking unit is really starting to come together now and it’s looking fantastic inside. After everything that’s happened, seeing it gradually turn into a working factory is a brilliant feeling. We honestly can’t wait to share more of it with you and, most importantly, get back to doing what we do best!

We also wanted to give you a little preview of something that means a lot to us — our new factory signs.

Remarkably, the original G. Simmons & Sons sign survived the fire virtually unscathed. We’ve kept it safe and, in time, we’re hoping to find somewhere special for it so that it can remain part of the business and its history.

For the new signs, we wanted to keep the traditional Simmons look but include something particularly special — Graham’s signature.

Graham was there when we opened the factory back in 1994. Sadly, he won’t be here in person to see us reopen this time, but there was never any doubt that he would still be a part of it.

His signature will now proudly sit alongside the Simmons name on our new factory signs — a little nod to Graham and a reminder that he’ll always be part of everything we do.

We think he’d be very proud to see us getting back on our feet and preparing to open those doors again.

Thank you, as always, for all the messages, support and encouragement. It genuinely means the world to us and has helped keep us going through what has been an incredibly challenging year.

A few progress shots of our soon to be cook room! We are so excited to get back producing the finest Pork Scratchings! We are grateful for all the messages of support and asking when we are going to be open again - at the moment we do not have a confirmed date but as soon as we do we will be announcing it! We promise it won’t be too much longer now, and it’ll certainly be worth the wait!

We’re working incredibly hard to reopen in the autumn, but at the moment there are no official dates just yet. As soon as we have them, you’ll be the first to know.

We can’t wait to share some pictures of our new cooking site with you all, it’s looking amazing, and we’re so excited to be almost there!

Just to answer a few of the questions we’ve been getting asked recently:

📍 The Shop
Our shop will remain exactly where it has always been. When we’re ready to reopen, we’ll let you all know. Our opening days and hours will be the same as they were before the fire, and Lisa & Lynsey will be back ready to welcome and serve you all.

Please keep an eye on our page and wait for official confirmation before making a special trip.

🏭 Our New Cooking Site
Our cooking operation is moving into a different unit, but it remains on the same estate. As before, this site is not open to the public. The only part of our business open to customers is our shop at Unit 2.

📦 Our Original Unit
Our old unit will eventually be rebuilt and will become our packing and warehouse facility. Again, just like before, this area will not be open to the public.

📅 Reopening Date
At the moment, we still don’t have a confirmed reopening date. We’re working incredibly hard behind the scenes and are aiming for Autumn, but we’ll only announce dates once everything is confirmed.

As soon as we know, you’ll know! 🙌🏻

When we’re back up and running, our shop will reopen and our online website will go live again too.

One thing we should add… the photo we used on our previous post is actually an old one! 😅

Sorry if we got your hopes up and had you thinking there were bags of Scratchings flying around already!

In fact, we don’t think there’s a single bag of our 180g Scratchings left anywhere in the world at the minute! 🤯

If you do happen to find one tucked away somewhere, get it on eBay — you’ll probably be quids in! 😂

The good news is it won’t be too long before there are thousands of them flying off the shelves again. 🙌🏻

Good morning everyone ☀️

Just a little update from us as we continue working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready.

We genuinely can’t wait to start sharing photos and videos of the progress being made at our new cooking site. There’s been plenty happening, and we’re looking forward to showing you all what we’ve been working on.

Another exciting step forward is happening next week, as we’re due to take delivery of our additional packing machines. This is a huge milestone for us, as it means that as soon as we’re back in production, we’ll have everything in place and ready to pack and distribute our products to you lovely lot as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Every week brings us closer, and whilst we still can’t give an exact date just yet, please know that we’re doing everything we can to get back up and running.
