When Saheda from our Rochdale store heard that one of her older customers had been widowed she promised the customer's daughter that she'd look after her – and now she always supports her with her shopping.

The customer's daughter lives in London, so was worried about how her mum would cope on her own, so Saheda told her which days she works so the customer could time her visits knowing she'll be there. While she's in the store Saheda scans and packs her shopping, gets a chair for the customer, and makes the time to have a nice chat with her. The customer was so impressed that she told the store's customer manager Dave how much Saheda's kindness means to her. Dave said: "The lady told me that ever since she lost her husband three months ago, Saheda has been like a breath of fresh air in her life every time she shops– not just because of the help she offers, but as an emotional support and somebody to chat to."

Saheda said: "I used to see the lady come in with her husband all the time and then didn't see her for a while. Then I saw her shopping with her daughter, and they told me what had happened. I told her to come and see me every time she came in... and she does. We have a good chat and I help her, as she does struggle a bit.

"She thanks me every single time and I go, 'no, you don't need to thank me'. It's sweet, though. I like to think that somebody would do that for my own mum. I always think too that one day I could be in that position. It doesn't cost anything to be pleasant and kind, does it?"

When a blind customer called into our St Helens store looking for some new outfits to wear on holiday, Asda colleague Debbie immediately stepped in to help.

The customer told Debbie the sorts of things she wanted, so she took her to the George department, described various options for her and picked out a selection for the customer to choose from. The customer felt the materials, said which ones she liked the most, and chose five different outfits. Debbie said: "We had a really good chat and I spent quite some time with her making sure she was happy. She was so relieved that someone was looking after her. Helping people is just part of my job. The lady was extremely grateful and that was enough for me. Even her guide dog looked up at me as if to say thank you. I told the lady if she ever needed help in the future to just ask for me personally."

Debbie's been nominated for an Asda service superstar award, with ambient manager Linzi saying: "Debbie always gives great service, but this was going the extra mile. We are all very proud of her. She's very caring, she's like the mum of the store here!"

Today we're celebrating Katie and the amazing journey she's shared with us 💗

As a member of the Asda marketing team, Katie has spent the last 18 years helping share the life-saving messages behind Tickled Pink.

When she found a lump during a routine breast check, those same messages helped her recognise a change and get it checked.

After treatment, Katie returned to work earlier this year and continues to use her experience to support and inspire others by sharing her story.

We're so proud to call Katie part of the Asda family. ✨

A huge thank you to all our generous customers, colleagues and volunteers who've been supporting our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign throughout October.

Colleagues have been putting on their pink T-shirts, wigs and tutus as they tackle fundraising sponsored walks and dips in the chilly sea, dress up in 80s clothes, have fun afternoon teas, have their hair dyed, their heads and beards shaved... and even their legs waxed!

Community champion Michelle, from our Gosforth store, said: "A big thank you to all our customers and colleagues who have supported us. We've had a fun time but also given a serious shout out to check them b***s and pecs. Know your normal. If in doubt get checked out."

Tickled Pink is the partnership between Asda, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! and this year we've been celebrating our 30th anniversary! That’s 30 years of reminding more people to check their b***s, pecs or chests and 30 years of helping more people find breast health information and support when they need it. We've raised more than £100 million over the last 30 years for world-class research, life-changing support and vital breast awareness information.

When home shopping driver Dan's van broke down two hours from the Swansea store and couldn't immediately be fixed he continued his deliveries on foot to make sure his customers still got their shopping.

Dan was delivering to the village of Cribyn near Lampeter when the automatic gears failed and the van couldn't move. Knowing it wouldn't be a quick fix, he decided to do everything he could to get customers' shopping to them. He said: "I was quite close to a customer's home so I got the trolley out and filled it with crates and took it to their house. The next one was on the other side of the village – about a 20-to-30-minute walk – so I again packed up the trolley and started walking. It was quite dark by then and there were no street lights on the final stretch so I had to use the torch on my phone. The customer was really grateful, a little bit dumbstruck that I'd walked with his shopping, but grateful. The area is very rural and there aren't many shops, that's why we deliver here. I wanted the customers to get their deliveries."

Store manager Andre, who's nominated Dan for an Asda service superstar award, said: "When I heard what Dan had done I immediately felt proud of his actions and wanted to ensure he got the recognition he deserved. That night he went out of his way and showed real determination to ensure his customers were not let down, delivering some on foot and waiting with his van for recovery which meant he didn't get back to store until the early hours. Dan's actions that evening shows what a great colleague he is and how is always willing to help his fellow colleagues and customers no matter the circumstances."

25/10/2026

Community champion Sam from our Dundee Kirkton store is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign and says awareness of self checking helped to save her life.

Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump during a regular ‘self-check’ in 2022. Following a lumpectomy, she had 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by 20 sessions of radiotherapy, which came to an end in December 2023 – almost a year after she first found her lump.

She said: "Ever since I started as a community champion in 2014, a role which got me directly involved with the campaign every year, I did the checks like clockwork, once a month in the shower. I thought, ‘You can’t tell other people to check themselves if you’re not doing it yourself.’

She said having her own experience with breast cancer has supported her work with the Tickled Pink campaign, which marks 30 years this month: “With lived knowledge, people know I haven’t just read about this in a book and they tend to listen to what I’m saying. It’s emotional of course, but if I can encourage more people to check themselves regularly, then I’ll take that as a win.”

Sam is now working locally to encourage GP surgeries in Dundee to include information about self-checking as an add-on to regular smear tests, in a campaign she’s calling ‘Swipe and Squeeze’.

Able2b are holding their annual Discover Your Ability event this Sunday 28th June.

Their biggest event of the year brings together children and adults with disabilities for a day of challenge teamwork and achievement. SEN participants are paired with mainstream school children, working together through the course and discovering just how much they can accomplish side by side.

We have donated plenty of soft drinks to keep them hydrated on the day!

For more information and to see previous years events head to their page or website https://www.able2b.co.uk/

Congratulations to Drayton 1st Scout group for securing £500 through the Asda Foundation Active Young Lives grant!

Drayton 1st beaver (6-8 years) cubs (8-10 years)and scouts (10-14 years) are a solely outside scout group who do activities such as archery, axe throwing, canoe and climbing activities.

The grant will be used to provide equipment to support these activities across the three groups from ages 6-14.

The groups are run by volunteer leaders and supported by the families and fundraising so the grant is necessary to be able to purchase necessary equipment to be able to complete and gain badges, which the groups proudly display on their uniforms! It was a pleasure to meet all the beavers, cubs, young leaders and leaders. I hope to re-visit to see the activities this grant has supported in action.

I had the pleasure of joining LTC Green spaces and some volunteers from City College Norwich on a little pick and cutting back session along the length of the Lakenham Way.

We collected 10 bags of rubbish a plastic chair and even a door! The most interesting thing i found was this slime timer.

We cut back brambles to make way for bulb and wild flower seed planting. I look forward to returning to see all the flowers coming through brightening up this popular walk way which runs from Asda into the city.

This month we are sharing our knowledge of breast checking – just like sharing your favourite recipes, tips or videos – with family, friends and colleagues.

With this in mind I went around the store and asked colleagues to tell me what their recipe for success was. There were some brilliant ideas and it sparked some meaningful conversation among our colleagues!

When Lucy (fundraiser for Stalham Town Football Club) purchased 200 easter eggs from our store on Hall Road our scan and go colleague Cherie asked what the eggs would be used for.

When she found out they were hosting a family fun day, open to the community of Stalham, Cherie mentioned getting in touch with me for some support with the event which she did.

James (coach at Stalham Football Club) came into store Wednesday evening after training to collect the donation! We were happy to donate them with some prizes such as bubble wands and sweets for the children to win on games such as hook a duck, giant foot darts and a tombola they would be playing at the event!

Thank you James and Lucy for supporting your local community.

Our customer manager Tobias cycled 30 miles from Cromer to Norwich to raise more for Tickled Pink.

On arrival to the store Tobias said: "I am proud to have taken on the challenge in helping to raise vital funds for such a good cause, the sunny weather and money raised so far kept me motivated while completing the 30 miles."

So far, as a store, we have raised a fantastic £140 for Tickled Pink, there is still time to donate via our just giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/asda-south-norwich.

Thank you to all our wonderful colleagues for supporting the challenge by donating and to Tobias for completing the challenge.
