Parcels Parcels Parcels..... We love them πππ½π€£
You know those corner shops and newsagents where you pick up your Evri, DPD, or other parcels? They're getting squeezed out β and most people haven't noticed.
Here's what's going on. Evri just cut the commission it pays shop owners again β down to 15p per parcel dropped off. That's the fourth or fifth cut in a few years. One shop owner called it "a hindrance" to normal trade. The Federation of Independent Retailers called it "a kick in the teeth."
So why are they doing it? Because lockers are cheaper to run. No staff needed. No commission per parcel. Open 24/7. One locker can handle 160 parcels a day with a single courier stop.
And the numbers tell the story. Evri just invested millions in 1,000 new lockers with Bloqit. InPost has 14,000 lockers in the UK and growing fast. Over 115 million parcels went through lockers last year β and usage has tripled in some networks.
The direction of travel is pretty clear. Lockers are the future of parcel collection. ParcelShops won't vanish overnight β villages and small towns still need them, and big parcels won't fit in a locker β but the volume is shifting, and the commission cuts are making the decision for a lot of shop owners.
Worth knowing if you're picking up, dropping off, or delivering. π¦
