We asked our founder Kiran about our Wellness range and our our two recent additions: She’s Well and Relax Well.
1. After more than 30 years in tea, what made you want to create a dedicated Wellness Range?
—- Tea was the hero when we first found Makaibari Tea and learned how biodynamic practices build plants that not only taste wonderful but are also resilient to all that nature throws at them. That was over 20 years ago. Then the education piece was around Tea, we were ingredient besotted (and still are). Today tea lovers want to know when they should drink what and why. We get so many questions around benefits that we thought why not use the ingredients we know about to make simple, easy to navigate products that solve people’s different needs.
2. Why did She’s Well and Relax Well feel like the right next teas to add?
—- There really is so little out there for purely women so we made She’s well to support our very large female community of Hampstead tea drinkers (and non Hampstead tea drinkers too). The sage and tulsi vana are a perfect combo for hormonal balance. And whereas sleep is a big part of tea ranges out there, there was nothing that just was relaxing. So not quite the sleep-inducing benefits of valerian, the vanilla that we have in our sleep teas. This one has shatavari and rose petals. So not lights out, but chill.
3. What do you think people are really looking for when they choose a wellness tea?
—- A short cut to an inner feel good. A moment for you. And it has to be safe from the world of artificial flavours, plastics and harmful chemicals. What would be the point in drinking a tea for your wellbeing filled with chemicals? It beats me as to how much stuff out there is so packed with junk.
4. Wellness can feel noisy and overcomplicated. How can tea offer something simpler?
—- There is much written around polyphenols, anitoxidants blah blah but that’s not what people think about as they approach the tea shelf. So we thought short simple names and graphics would be easier to understand especially in our overseas markets. Effective plants and easy to decipher packs containing living things that actually make a difference.
