An absolute pleasure to have the children visit us this week π
What Makes Wales Special? Discovering the Wonders of Wales!
As part of our big question, βWhat makes Wales special?β, Dosbarth Nolton recently took a fascinating trip to Milford Marina to explore one of Walesβ most important industries β fishing!
Our visit to the local fishmongers was an eye-opening experience. We learned which fish are caught in Welsh waters, even just off Gelliswick, how they are prepared, and even discovered that some customers travel from as far away as Bristol to buy this fresh, local produce.
Jan, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, answering all our questions and showing us the wide variety of fish available.
This trip linked perfectly to the Curriculum for Wales, helping us develop our understanding of local culture and economy, sustainability, and where our food comes from. It also supported our Expressive Arts skills as we took time to sketch the beautiful boats, interesting buildings, and fishing equipment around the marina in pairs.
We were amazed by the sights and sounds of Milford Marina β from colourful houses overlooking the water to stacks of lobster pots and nets ready for the next catch. It was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the unique character of our Welsh coastline and the hardworking people who make it special.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this visit possible β and especially to Jan for sharing such fascinating insights into the world of Welsh seafood!
