Set up in 1988 by local people to provide good food for the community at affordable prices, FareShares is a not-for-profit community project that stocks simple unadulterated food (often called 'wholefoods') and related products. The co-op is run on an entirely voluntary, unpaid basis by the people who use it. FareShares stocks: organic vegetables & fruits; grains, beans & pulses; fresh baked & spr
outed breads; dried fruits & nuts; etc. Tamari, olive oil, peanut butter. We have a wide range of herbs and sea vegetables! If we haven't got what you want and it can be ordered from the wholesalers, Suma & Infinity, we'll get it for you. Everything is Vegan, organic (except salt & vegetables) and everything is bought in bulk and sold as cheaply as possible. We add only a small mark-up to cover running costs. The store is open to all & operates on a DIY basis: bring your own bags; weigh out and price up the goods you want; add up the total cost of the things you’re buying. Please use the chits provided for this and pay at the till. If you need help, haven’t used FareShares before or can’t find something, ask the shift workers, who are also there to help as well as collect your payment. FareShares encourages all its users to become active in running the project. Get involved by volunteering for a regular two-hour shift; help out behind the scenes (e.g.: re-stocking shelves on Wednesdays) or work on occasional activities, such as maintenance or spring cleaning. To volunteer, please leave your details on a slip posted into the shop's Volunteers Box. Please leave what you can in the donations jar as we need more than £350 each month to cover basic running costs. Extra money helps us replace equipment, make repairs, improve the building and buy in new or seasonal products. Thanks for your support, which helps us chip away at the social and economic dominance of the supermarket giants and corporate food producers.
